🚽🏰🧐 Take a Closer Look at Castell Conwy! Series 2

💡👀 Can you spot the medieval toilets built into the walls of Castell Conwy?

On the north side, the toilet outlets were set low above the natural rock. These were weak points in the castle’s defences, so they were protected with stone covers.

On the south side, the toilets were built higher up, projecting from the walls on stone corbels with seats overlooking the River Gyffin below! 😮🌿

🚽🏰🧐Edrychwch yn agosach ar Gastell Conwy! Cyfres 2

💡👀Allwch chi weld toiledau canoloesol Castell Conwy wedi’u hadeiladu i mewn i'r muriau?

Ar yr ochr ogleddol, roedd agoriadau’r toiledau wedi’u gosod yn isel uwchben y graig naturiol. Roedd y rhain yn fannau gwan yn amddiffynfeydd y castell, felly cawsant eu diogelu â gorchuddion cerrig.

Ar yr ochr ddeheuol, roedd y toiledau wedi’u hadeiladu’n uwch gan ymwthio allan o’r muriau ar gorbelau cerrig gyda seddi’n edrych dros Afon Gyffin islaw! 😮🌿

🏰 Barod am antur?

⚔️🐉 Mae Castell Conwy yn aros amdanoch… dim dreigiau wedi’u cynnwys ond digonedd o hanes a digon o risiau’r tyrau i wneud i farchog ennill ei arfwisg!

🥾 Argymhellir esgidiau cyfforddus — roedd angen pâr da o esgidiau ar farchogion hefyd! 😄

🏰 Imagine being only 15 years old and negotiating the fate of a mighty castle!

In 1401, the future King Henry V — remarkably young — came to Conwy during the uprising of Owain Glyndŵr to help secure the return of the castle, which had been captured by Gwilym ap Tudur and his brother Rhys ap Tudur.

The story has a fascinating Welsh twist — the Tudur brothers were ancestors of the Tudor dynasty, the Welsh family who would later rise to the throne of England and produce monarchs including Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. 👑

A teenage prince, a captured castle and a remarkable chapter in Welsh history. ⚔️
