On Saturday, 6th June, the Mayor of Conwy, Councillor Sian Grady, Conwy Town Council, and the Royal British Legion Conwy were honoured to welcome members of the community, veterans, service organisations, uniformed groups, local representatives, and residents to the D-Day Commemoration Service at the Mulberry Stone, Conwy Beacons.

The service was very well attended and provided a moving opportunity to come together in remembrance of the courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who took part in the D-Day landings and the wider Second World War.

Set against the backdrop of Conwy Morfa, the ceremony paid tribute to the bravery of the Allied forces. It reflected upon the lasting legacy of those who fought to secure the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

🎉 Join us for the Telford Bi-Centenary Parade! 🎉

On Saturday, 27th June, Conwy will come alive as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of one of the town's most remarkable achievements, the iconic Telford Suspension Bridge.

The Telford Parade will begin at 12.00pm, making its way from the Llandudno Junction side of the Cob, marching down the road of the Cob and then finishing on the Quay, where the celebrations will continue.

Led by the Menai Bridge Band, the Town Council, and visiting dignitaries, and featuring uniformed service groups, local organisations, community groups, flags, bunting, and much more, the parade promises to be a colourful and memorable spectacle for all ages.
We would love to see residents and visitors lining the route to cheer on the participants and be part of this special day. Come along, show your support, and help us celebrate an important chapter in Conwy's history.

Whether you have a connection to the bridge, an interest in local history, or simply want to enjoy a fantastic community event, this is a celebration not to be missed.

Councillor Grady has long supported the local community through her work at both town and county level, earning admiration for her enthusiasm, leadership, and dedication to public service.

Conwy Town Council is pleased to congratulate Councillor Sian Grady on her appointment as Mayor of Conwy and Constable of the Castle.

Councillor Grady is a dedicated advocate for the Conwy community, serving at both town and county level with commitment and distinction. As former Deputy Mayor, she has played an active role in community events, heritage, communications, and local planning. She is also leading the Telford 200 community celebrations, marking the 200th anniversary of Conwy’s historic suspension bridge.

We wish Councillor Grady every success during her Mayoral year.

Yellow-Legged Asian Hornet
The yellow-legged Asian Hornet (Vespa velutina) is an invasive, non-native predatory insect that has been discovered in Wales. It has established itself across large parts of Europe, currently expanding across southern England and recently a nest was found in Wrexham. The concern is that a significant number of hornets are now hibernating away from the nest, will emerge in Spring and start to colonise.
Yellow-legged Asian Hornets prey on pollinating insects including Bumble Bees, Butterflies and Honey Bees. It is slightly smaller than native European hornets, but bigger than a wasp and has a dark/black thorax, with a distinct yellow/orange band on the abdomen, and yellow legs. It has no natural predator in the UK. They can appear docile, ignoring humans while they forage for food, but disturb the nest and they will become very aggressive.
Please be vigilant and report any sightings via the Asian Hornet Watch app, that can be downloaded to your smartphone or email [email protected]. Please take a photograph if safe to do so.
Defra and the Animal & Plant Health Agency are working to track, trace, and destroy nests. Local beekeeping groups are working with authorities to promote awareness. More information can be found here https://www.gov.wales/first-finding-yellow-legged-hornet-wales
