Today as the vast majority of Northern Ireland enjoy a welcome long bank weekend we have members of Sinn Fein IRA who have travelled over the border to Ballina, County Mayo to commemorate a group of Irish terrorists who committed su***de through starvation.
The most deeply concerning point is that Michelle O’Neill- the so called ‘first minister of all’ will be delivering the main oration. Ofcourse people have the right to honour their dead but should a first minister and other members of office of a British state be attending commemorations of terrorists who were a part of an organisation that murdered, shot, beat, kidnapped and bombed almost 2000 people throughout their decades long murder campaign and still be expected to do their job for a state which they do not even want to exist?
Instead of remembering these men for their ‘brave sacrifice’ it is important to remember these men were not innocent civilian’s but criminals.
Bobby Sands- arrested in 1972 for possessing 4 handguns and again in 1977 for possessing a revolver after a bombing and shooting battle with the RUC in Dunmurry.
Francis Hughes- Murdered a British soldier and shot and wounded another in 1978 near Maghera County Londonderry.
Raymond McCreesh- arrested for attempted murder of British soldiers, possession of a rifle and ammunition and IRA membership. The rifle he had in his possession was used in the Kingsmills massacre a year previous where 10 Protestant civilians were brutally murdered.
Patsy Ohara- in 1976 he was arrested for possession of a weapon, 1977 for holding a Garda at gunpoint and finally in 1979 for possessing a hand Gr***de.
Joe McDonnell- was arrested along side Bobby Sands after a bombing and shooting battle with the RUC in Dunmurry.
Martin Hurson- was convicted for 3 land mine attacks in County Tyrone against British forces. Luckily they all resulted in no deaths.
Kevin Lynch- member of the INLA he was tried, convicted and sentenced to ten years for stealing shotguns, taking part in a punishment shooting and conspiring to take arms from the security forces.
Kieran Doherty- in 1976 Doherty set out to plant a bomb as he fled from the RUC in a van he ditched it and hijacked a car. He was convicted of possessing fi****ms and explosives and hijacking a car.
Thomas McElwee- was arrested for his part in a bombing blitz in Ballymena in 1976 which saw a young mother Yvonne Dunlop murdered infront of her young child.
Michael Devine- one of the founding members of the INLA Devine was charged with the theft of rifles, shotguns and possession of 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
Micheal Gaughan- was on a fund raising mission for the IRA and robbed a bank in London, he was also caught with two revolvers.
Frank Stagg- was a commanding officer of the IRA along with a priest. They were arrested and convicted for planning bombing attacks in Coventry.
Not model citizens in my eyes or any law abiding citizens eyes. Morally blind Sinn Fein believe these men should be commemorated for their ‘brave sacrifice’ but I will always remember them for what they are- terrorists and criminals who spat the dummy from the pram because they got caught breaking the law.
