Weaving Corby’s History! 😍 This Saturday, for our childrens' craft activity, we'll be trying weaving - bring the kids along and make a bookmark and a pendant or keyring to take home!

This is a special edition of our regular craft sessions, to mark Local and Community History Month. Did you know that before Corby was known for its steel, it was known for its weaving?

Join us for a special hands-on craft session led by Aleksandra, where you’ll take part in a weaving activity inspired by Corby’s industrial heritage. This will be a fun, age‑appropriate activity for children and young people, giving everyone the chance to explore creativity while learning about Corby’s past.

Saturday 23rd May:
Children 10-11am,
Young Adults 11.30am -12.30pm

Share with friends, family, and anyone interested in crafts, history, or creative activities.

Have your say on the future of local play areas!

North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) is developing a new Play Area Strategy to guide how play areas are managed and improved across the area. The strategy will focus on accessibility, funding, usage, future provision, and supporting active travel within NNC play spaces.

Whether you’re a parent, carer, regular visitor, or simply interested in local facilities, this is your opportunity to help shape the future of play in your community.

Find out more and share your views here:
https://northnorthants.citizenspace.com/communities-and-leisure/play-area-strategy-hys/

You can also explore other consultations via the Your Voice Matters hub. Please feel free to share this with family, friends, and your wider networks to help ensure as many voices as possible are heard.

The survey closes at 23:59 on 21 June 2026.

Coming up next week: we have a teen focus group during May half term! Do you have a teen at home who uses the library, or who would use the library more if they could? We would LOVE to hear young people’s views on what we’re doing right and what we could get better! This is *Wednesday 27th May, 2pm - 4pm,*, for ages 11-17.

We are keen to make our library better for young people, and we would love to hear your views! What do you think of our library? What would make young people use the library more? Chat with us and share your opinions! Staff will be leading a conversation all about what you think of the library, and snacks will be provided.

Do you remember any of these old library buildings? These were the previous full time libraries in Corby - from a hut at Pen Green which used to be an ARP Warden headquarters (which opened as a library in 1948), then the library at the bottom of George Street (where the Job Centre is now), and then upstairs in town (which is now the Corby Sixth Form college). The mobile library photo here is from 1957! 😮

This week is Dementia Action Week, and May is also Local and Community History Month. We are celebrating with a Dementia-themed coffee morning tomorrow (Wednesday) with free refreshments and a visit from dementia nurses and the local fire service, and we've also made a scrapbook of library history. This has been added to our scrapbook shelf in our Dementia Collection. Find these fascinating photos and loads more memories. Just drop in to browse this and reminisce 😀
