We believe in nurturing and supporting our towns community spirit, not cutting it!

Yesterday, North Northamptonshire Council’s Reform Executive made the disappointing decision to scrap the Members Empowerment Fund. A move that Corby Greens believe is a massive step in the wrong direction for our town and North Northamptonshire.

Our Lee Forster stood up for Corby at the council chamber to oppose this "short-sighted" plan. As Lee highlighted in his speech, this fund isn't a luxury it’s a vital lifeline for the grassroots organisations that keep our community running.

🙋‍♂️Direct Support:
This fund allowed councillors to provide small, essential grants to local grassroot projects that have few if any other avenues for funding.

💪Empowering Volunteers:
Groups like the Corby Wombles have used this funding for equipment, enabling community minded residents to improve our local environment.

💰Saving Public Money:
As Leader of the Green group, Cllr Emily Fedorowycz pointed out “This is not a saving. The Institute of Volunteering Research shows that every pound invested in voluntary sector organisations generates over five pounds in value.”

The work Corby Wombles do alone, must save North Northamptonshire Council tens of thousands every year! 💚

📢ALL CORBY RESIDENTS📢
Don’t miss this open public meeting tomorrow Thursday 7th at The Grampian 6pm.

The organisers have put together an interesting panel of experts who will be joining community speakers in their quest for answers around contaminated land in Corby and links to local health issues.

Rev Paul Cawthorne: A vicar and citizen scientist who supports communities affected by toxic dumping and will be featured in an upcoming BBC documentary.

Emma Jones (Leigh Day): A partner at a leading public interest law firm with a history of securing public inquiries through legal action.

Diana Kirsch & Dr Marie Petersmann (LSE): Offering insights on environmental justice and how the new LSE Legal Advice Centre can support Corby residents.

See you there!

This morning our Lee, Paul & Ross joined up with the Corby Wombles community pick and their mammoth quest to clear up the wooded area behind Asda.

to all the volunteer wombles that turned up, and to our Greens too. Together a grand haul of 92 bags of litter was picked plus a whole load of flytipping too. 💚💚💚

This public meeting on Thursday 7th at The Grampian will be worthwhile going to.

So many questions still need answering about where the steelworks waste went... how will we find the answers? and how do we find out if Corby's past is connected to the health of our community today.

The organisers have put together a panel of community voices and legal experts.

Guess who popped into Corby for a cuppa today? ☕️ Our very own Lee Forster and Paul Hopkins had a lovely catch-up with the 'Queen of Greens' herself, Caroline Lucas, at the Hungry Hossee!

Caroline has been hearing positive things about Corby’s community spirit and is researching for her latest book. The guys couldn't wait to tell her what makes our town special. They specifically chose the Hungry Hossee so Caroline could meet Shelaine and hear all about her growing Project Hope Corby, a lifeline that brings volunteers together to support the homeless, vulnerable, and lonely in our area. 💚

They didn't stop there! The guys made sure to spotlight the other fantastic local initiatives doing great stuff for our town, including, The Growing Project in Coronation Park, KHL Community Workshop, Strides Cafe ...and many more! ✅

While they loved celebrating the good, Caroline was also keen to hear about the serious challenges our town is facing right now. Caroline shared our deep concern over the two planned local incinerators, the ongoing Corby Childhood Cancer Campaign and the shocking refusal by North Northants Reform councillors to back our motion in support of ‘Zane’s Law’, making NNC the first and only council in the entire country to vote it down. 😡

Corby is full of passionate, hardworking people, and we will NEVER stop championing our community. We will keep shouting about the good, and fighting against the bad.

Thank you to everyone who makes Corby great. 💚

Wow! a fantastic job was done in Pytchley Court today. Thank you to everyone who joined in 💚💚💚

There was a big mess around the clothes donation bins and some very questionable donations that we don't want to discuss here 😀

18 bags of rubbish and various other bits like a smashed up on keyboard, roller blinds and bits of a curly wig blowing about everywhere!

Our 'Zane's Law' motion proposed by Cllr Ben Williams was shockingly blocked by Reform North Northants Councillors earlier this month... the first and only Council to vote it down!😡

Thankfully similar motions have since been passed, by Havering Council, Rochdale Council and now unanimously by Kettering Town Council! 💚💚💚

We hope to see more North Northamptonshire councils taking kettering's lead, and pass their own 'Zane's Law' Motions in support of the Contaminated Land Bill currently making it's way through parliament.

Lee Forster and Corby Greens are hoping to be able to show support for a 'Zane's Law' motion at Corby Town Council very soon.

Corby knows the cost of contaminated land all too well. From the 'Toxic Town' legacy to the ongoing fight for transparency, our community deserves to know if there is toxic waste under our feet. That’s why we back the Contaminated Land Bill.

Corby families should no longer be left in the dark about contaminated land, and crucially, should not be expected to pick up the bill!

We want to see Corby's land made safe for the next generation.

For those who have not already seen it, here is our Lee, standing up for Corby in support of the Zane's Law motion at the NNC earlier this month. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1XW1nbHBbT/

Kettering Town Council (KTC) has voted to back Zane’s Law weeks after North Northamptonshire Council rejected to same motion.
