Our Daniel set off on his '100 Miles of Hope' cycle ride this morning. He has already had two punctures and so it has not been going completely to plan. BUT he has said he is not going to give up and is determined to complete his target of 100 miles by Sunday.

Go Daniel! đź’šđźš´

📢Tonight, Corby Town Council has a choice to make at its full council meeting.

Councillors will vote on a motion to formally back the principles of Zane’s Law (the Clean Land Human Rights Bill). This proposed legislation in Parliament would force local authorities to maintain a fully transparent, public register of contaminated land and properly clean up dangerous, toxic sites, with costs covered by central government and recouped from polluters, rather than council taxpayers!

Corby Greens welcome the growing momentum behind Zane's Law, having consistently pushed for stronger protections against contaminated land.

Drawing on Corby's own experience of environmental injustice, Corby Green Party coordinator Lee Forster says, “I have pushed hard for political support of this legislation at a local level. I, along with local Green Party activists, will continue to raise awareness and support campaigners in their fight to get a public inquiry into contaminated land in Corby.”

THAT IS WHY WE ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO COME TOGETHER THIS THURSDAY.

The fight doesn’t end inside the council chamber tonight. This Thursday, the Corby Childhood Cancer Campaign, along with other local campaigners, will be protesting outside the Corby Cube.

Representing over 130 local families, they are demanding a full public inquiry into Corby’s toxic legacy and the potential links between the steelworks, its toxic waste, and the health of this town.

For too long, families have been left without answers, searching for the truth while North Northants Council does little to help. We cannot allow the painful lessons of the 2009 toxic waste scandal to be swept under the carpet, especially while children continue to be diagnosed with cancer and local families continue to face the devastation it brings.

JOIN CAMPAIGNERS OUTSIDE THE CORBY CUBE @ 5PM THIS THURSDAY, 16th JULY and demand transparency, a full public inquiry, and safety for future generations.

See you there! 🤝💚

In Corby we had our 'bad apple' with Reform UK's Robert Bloom, who quit as councillor for Lloyds & Corby Village ward and who was subsequently charged with two counts of racially aggravated harassment. (He pleads not guilty with trial set for later this summer)

Now Cllr Eglin, the recently appointed chair of North Northants Council has had to step down!

Full statement from North Northamptonshire Green Party below.

Reform Chair of North Northamptonshire Council, Cllr Maurice Eglin, has stepped down from his role of Chair after NN Journal reported their historic tweets. Here is our statement:

“We are appalled to read the comments Cllr Eglin has made about both the Muslim and Trans communities. The comments made by Eglin are deeply un-British.

It’s comments like these that stoke up hate and violence, like burning pride banners in Rushden or encouraging riots in Belfast.

This kind of bigotry has no place in civic life. We are elected to represent all of our constituents, not just those we agree with.

He has made the right decision to step down as Chair of the council, but having undermined the trust placed in him, we believe it is right for the people of Burton and Barton to decide if he should continue to represent them.”

We believe in nurturing and supporting our towns community spirit, not cutting it!

Yesterday, North Northamptonshire Council’s Reform Executive made the disappointing decision to scrap the Members Empowerment Fund. A move that Corby Greens believe is a massive step in the wrong direction for our town and North Northamptonshire.

Our Lee Forster stood up for Corby at the council chamber to oppose this "short-sighted" plan. As Lee highlighted in his speech, this fund isn't a luxury it’s a vital lifeline for the grassroots organisations that keep our community running.

🙋‍♂️Direct Support:
This fund allowed councillors to provide small, essential grants to local grassroot projects that have few if any other avenues for funding.

đź’ŞEmpowering Volunteers:
Groups like the Corby Wombles have used this funding for equipment, enabling community minded residents to improve our local environment.

đź’°Saving Public Money:
As Leader of the Green group, Cllr Emily Fedorowycz pointed out “This is not a saving. The Institute of Volunteering Research shows that every pound invested in voluntary sector organisations generates over five pounds in value.”

The work Corby Wombles do alone, must save North Northamptonshire Council tens of thousands every year! đź’š
