On-call 24/7, 365 in all weathers

The station is located on Marine Drive, Hannafore, overlooking Looe Island, where our blue light vehicle and equipment are packed and ready to respond to emergencies around the coast. We are a team of 12, with a vast mixture of skills and backgrounds. Experience in the team ranges from a few months to over 30 years!
There is no on-call allowance, we do receive payments close to minimum wage for incidents we attend and some training. We can be expected to be called out 24/7 365 by pager. And many of us live very close to station.
UK Coastguard (24 hrs) operations rooms positioned around the UK are responsible for the tasking and mobilisation of Search & Rescue (SAR) assets such as.... Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRT), RNLI lifeboats and Coastguard helicopters to people in danger and/or distress around the UK Coastline. It is the ops room staff that you speak to directly when you dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
As a team we respond to around 60+ incidents per year locally.

•Missing person search
•Time Expired Pyrotechnics/ordinance (TEP)
•Emergency Helicopter landing sites
•Casualty extraction
•Receiver of wreck
•Incident co-ordination
•Mutual aid to other agencies
Working together - Our flank teams are Tamar Coastguard Rescue Team and Polruan Coastguard. Tamar Coastguard team offers additional mud rescue capability.
In a coastal emergency always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard or watercraft users VHF maritime radio channel 16.
