Subject: Send a letter: Urgent Action: Stop Disastrous Decision to Extend Drax’s Subsidies

Body:

Friend,

I wrote a letter for the Action Network letter campaign: Urgent Action: Stop Disastrous Decision to Extend Drax’s Subsidies.

The Government has just made the disastrous decision to hand billions more in subsidies to tree burners Drax and Lynemouth. This is a decision to push up emissions, energy bills and profits for Drax’s shareholders. Rather than listening to the science, the Government is pouring billions more into the economic black hole of Drax. While this decision is disappointing, it is not the end of this campaign. The fight to end dirty tree burning, and to transition to genuinely clean energy and green jobs is far from over. We need our MP’s to take action in Parliament and do everything they can to put a stop to this reckless decision. Please take the time today to make it clear to this Government and your MP that we will not stand by and allow them to pour our money into forest destruction and pollution.

Thanks!

Spon End, 3 years ago - our tree protection camp was facing eviction after 13 weeks. The trees there to be felled by Coventry City Council for the bypass to built.
Those trees were not in the way of the bypass, the space was used for temporary workers cabins which could have been set up in a car park opposite.
In court, the judge served notice on 'persons unknown' ( there were a lot of us campaigners and local residents) for us to leave.
On hearing the reason for the campaign, the judge said ' This should have been the other way round , you should have taken the council to court'.

On Monday next week, the trees should have been felled for the dual cycleway construction on Clifford Bridge Road.
Coventry City Council have failed to listen to the concerns of residents about safety and failed to acknowledge the strength of feeling about the 26 healthy mature trees 'in the way' when an alternative design or route would be safer for everyone and the trees could stay.

Again the Council haven't listened, so this time it is our turn to be heard.

Our first legal letter of intent has paused the felling until March 4th pending an injunction and judicial review. It's a costly process but we have to do this.

Please help fund our legal challenge.
We want a cycleway that's safe for everybody and we want the trees to stay.

Thank you to so many people who have donated so far including those who have handed money to me and CBR residents.
By chipping in just a few pounds, you could help save the trees from the chipper and be another who can say 'We' took on Coventry City Council'

We have sadly lost another tree from the area between Spon Gate House and the petrol station. You'll notice that it's rotten on the inside, so it had to go. I noticed a hole had been dug a few feet away from the stump. Let's hope it's for a replacement tree to go in 🌳
