Myunga Disala's reflective supervision. talking about all the brave things she did at Bendrigg. 2017
What Brave things have you done recently with the person you support and how did it go?
The bravest thing I did was go with Sheila to Bendrigg and it helps me to overcome my fears about certain things in life. Being brave is an ability to face, endure dangers or pain to overcome your fears. I was very excited to support Sheila with her holiday to Bendrigg and I really didn’t have any idea on how the activities are over there. I have tried to get as much informations from my colleagues and it seems that they have really enjoyed it and a good time. I said to myself that if they did it, I can also do it.
Our first activity was rock climbing, fear started to take over me as I soon saw the length of the wall, even though it was indoor but it looks dangerous.
Seeing how brave Sheila was during all these activities, made me think again that I can do everything. I referred to a bible verse that says that “I can do everything with God who strengthens me”. It made me think that I don’t need to think too much, I will just do it.
When you have fear of something or someone you cannot move forward, while bravery is the thing that frees you and leads you to knowing.
I was brave and took the courage to participate on all the activities. Being in the cave it was a dangerous thing for me to do because I don’t like being in suffocated places.
All the activities went well, Sheila is really a good teacher, she always teach us how to stay calm and be confident. Sheila was very calm and content, she was communicating very well, she was able to let us know when she happy for activities or not.
Me and Promila were so happy, to see how everything went so smoothly as being far away from home for work it’s a huge responsibility.
I am so happy with everything that I am doing for people I support and it’s helping me to become more confident.
