Did you work at the Standard or Standard Triumph – at Canley or any of the associated sites/companies associated with Triumph? If so we’d love to hear from you to build a database of names associated with the Standard and Triumph company. Fascinated with stories from ex-employees from Standard, Standard Triumph and Triumph, we thought we would collate and document as many of these memories as possible. We’d love you to get involved by adding as much or as little information as possible to the archive. Ultimately, we’d like a list of every worker, the years they worked there and which department, or part of the factory.

A recent image of an Ashtray, WW2 plane and a very helpful plaque. A super item.

The Standard Motor Co, built 1066 Mosquito planes during the war, as part of the Shadow Factory program. Assembled from a kit via a novel method of being separate straight down the middle, the Mosquito was nicknamed ‘The Wooden Wonder’ and once complete the two halves were glued together.

Each plane was test flown out of Ansty and right over The Standard Factory as a clear signal of ‘another one done’ to boost the moral of the factory workers. Two planes flew over a day, one at 11am and one at 3pm to coincide with John Black’s tea break!

There is huge uncertainty with the future of the Standard Triumph club building. The very last building on the Fletch site. It features on so many period photos including here from the carpark of The Kremlin, office block. A period aerial photo shows The Kremlin (6), the clubhouse (9) and the whole Fletch South site, mid sixties.

The ‘Recreation Pavillion’ to give it it’s introduction name was first opened on Tuesday 12th July, 1932 by His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester.

We have the plans and details of the official opening in our archives and will add them in due course.
