Coventry Youth Fight for Jobs

Coventry Youth Fight for Jobs The Coventry branch of Youth Fight for Jobs and Education If you want to be involved, email us at [email protected]! :)

Youth Fight for Jobs and Education is a campaigning organisation of young people and workers, calling for decent jobs for young people, a minimum wage of £8 an hour, and free education. We have the backing of 8 national trade unions, and numerous local trade union branches, including Coventry NUT (National Union of Teachers). We have already held a number of national demonstrations, and in October

-November 2011 around 100 activists are planning to march from Jarrow to London to mark the 75th anniversary of the Jarrow Crusade and demand jobs for young people. During this march they will be coming through Coventry, and we want to hold a big protest here as part of that.

We do not support or condone the riots in London and elsewhere, however we do understand that they come from a serious sense of anger. Tottenham has the highest rate of unemployment in London, with 54 applicants for every available job. The young people fighting have had their EMA stolen, their youth services cut and tuition fees trebled - and they can't get a job. Rioting is not a solution, though - people wanting to fight back should join YFJE!
