Kairos Women Working Together

Kairos Women Working Together Supporting, advocating for, and empowering marginalised women to increase their safety, self-belief, and self-reliance since 1999.

Kairos Women Working Together (Kairos) was established in 1999 and is a specialist organisation in Coventry run by women, for women. We provide holistic, trauma informed, long term support and advocacy for women who are subject to or at risk of sexual exploitation; including women who face multiple disadvantage and have ‘complex’ unmet needs. We empower women to increase their safety, stability, s

elf-belief, and self-reliance; improve their choices and life chances, and build fulfilled lives, free from violence, abuse, and exploitation.

‘Kairos’ is an ancient Greek word meaning ‘the right, critical, or opportune moment for the accomplishment of crucial action’. In Greek mythology, Kairos was the god of opportunity. We meet women where they are at, until the time is right for them to take action towards their goals. We provide options and create opportunities, supporting women to accomplish the change they want for their lives.

💚"There is nowhere else like this."💚

These were the words shared by one of the women who attends our Women's Hub as she reflected on the support she is receiving from Kairos.

Comments like this remind us why creating a safe, welcoming space matters so much. Our Women's Hub is more than a building – it's a place where women can be heard without judgement, build connections, access support, and simply be themselves.

Every day we see women finding friendship, confidence, hope, and a sense of belonging. Knowing that someone feels there is "nowhere else like this" is both humbling and a reminder of how important these spaces are.

If you would like to be part of creating this safe and supportive environment for women, we would love to hear from you. We are always looking for compassionate volunteers to join our team.

Today at Blossoms, one of our lovely mums-to-be enjoyed some special therapeutic time with volunteer Anca, having her beautiful baby bump painted.

Afterwards, she went shopping for items for her dignity bag, helping her prepare for her little one's arrival, which is now just 4 weeks away.

Bump painting is such a wonderful experience, creating a special connection between mum and baby while offering a chance to relax, unwind, and celebrate this precious stage of pregnancy. We're delighted that she is now feeling prepared and excited to welcome her new arrival. ✨

📣 Get Involved! 📣

As Volunteers' Week comes to an end, we'd love to encourage anyone who has been inspired by our volunteers to get involved with Kairos.

You don't need a specific background or lots of spare time to make a difference. Maybe you can give a few hours during the day, help out at our Wednesday evening outreach and drop-in, share a professional skill, or simply bring your enthusiasm and willingness to support women in our community.

Perhaps you're a hairdresser, nail technician, artist, gardener, administrator, fundraiser, or someone who's great at listening and making people feel welcome. Whatever your skills, experience or interests, we'd love to hear from you.

We do have a range of established volunteer roles, but we're also always interested in hearing from women who have something unique to offer. Some of our most valuable contributions have come from volunteers sharing skills they never thought would be useful.

At Kairos, we believe every woman has something to bring and every woman has a place.

If you'd like to find out more about volunteering with us, please contact our Volunteering and Community Engagement Lead, Karissa, at [email protected]

Together, we can help women feel seen, supported and empowered. 💚

💚 Why We Volunteer 💚

As part of Volunteers' Week, we asked some of our fabulous volunteers what motivates them to give their time to Kairos, and what keeps them coming back.

Their answers had a common theme: the women we support

✨ "Seeing the support Kairos gives to women and the impact it has on their lives and future."

✨ "Being able to help women see they are important and helping rebuild their lives."

✨ "Seeing women gain confidence and resilience is very rewarding, and I value being able to contribute in a meaningful way."

✨ "I'm motivated by the chance to make a real difference in women's lives, even in small ways. Seeing growth, resilience and hope in others keeps me coming back."

When we asked why Kairos, our volunteers spoke about the purpose and the community:

💚 "The Kairos staff and the women they support are amazing."

💚 "Seeing the support they give women, I wanted to be able to help too."

💚 "Kairos creates a space where women feel seen, valued and heard."

💚 "I'm drawn to Kairos' commitment to supporting women facing complex challenges and being part of a team that empowers women to move forward in their lives."

Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do. They give their time, skills, compassion and encouragement to help create a place where women feel welcomed, supported and valued.

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the incredible women who choose to stand alongside us and the women we support. Thank you for everything you do.

💚 A Day in the Life of a Kairos Volunteer 💚

As part of Volunteers' Week, we spent the day with two of our wonderful volunteers, Deana and Sue, as they supported our Wonder Women Wednesday drop-in.

From making toasties and hot drinks, filling urns, answering the door and welcoming women as they arrive, our volunteers help create the safe and welcoming environment that is at the heart of our service.

It's easy to think volunteering is all about the big moments, but often it's the small things that matter most. A friendly face at the door. A hot drink. A welcome that helps someone feel they belong.

Our volunteers bring kindness, energy, compassion and a willingness to get stuck in wherever they're needed. Quite simply, our services wouldn't be the same without them.

This Volunteers' Week, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to Deana, Sue and all of the incredible women who volunteer with Kairos. Your strength and commitment help create a community where women can feel safe and valued. 💚

💚 Volunteer Spotlight - Meet Ana Maria 💚

As part of Volunteers' Week, we're shining a light on one of the amazing women who gives her time, skills and compassion to support us.

Ana Maria is one of our fantastic new volunteers and has been supporting our Blossoms project.

We asked what inspired Ana Maria to volunteer- she shared:

"I have always wanted to help women in need, connect with them, listen to their stories and offer support during an important and sensitive time in their lives."

One of the things Ana Maria enjoys most about volunteering is building positive relationships and supporting women to feel heard, valued and more confident.

Volunteering has also had an impact on Ana Maria:

"It has given me a greater understanding of the challenges some women face and the importance of supporting them without judgment."

And for anyone considering volunteering with Kairos, Ana Maria's message is simple:

"I would highly recommend it. It's a rewarding experience where you can help others, connect with women and feel that your time and effort have a real impact."

When Ana Maria isn't volunteering, you'll find her spending time with family and friends, listening to music, going for walks, reading or watching films.

Thank you, Ana Maria, for your compassion and the difference you make at Kairos 💚

This National Volunteers Week, we're celebrating the incredible women who make so much of what we do possible.

At Kairos, our volunteers are an essential part of our team. Their creativity, passion, dedication, and willingness to go the extra mile bring enormous value to our services and the women we support every day.

From sharing skills and expertise to offering encouragement, time, and care, our volunteers help create opportunities, build confidence, and make a lasting difference.

Quite simply, many of our services could not operate without them.

To every Kairos volunteer: thank you for your commitment and compassion. Your contribution has a real and lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

💅✨ We’re looking for a volunteer! ✨💅

We’re seeking someone who can offer basic gel nail treatments for the women attending our Wonder Women Wednesday multi-agency drop-in.

This small act of care plays a big role in supporting wellbeing, confidence, and connection for the women who come along 💚

No qualifications or formal training are needed — just a steady hand and a willingness to give your time. If you already have skills in this area, we’d love to hear from you!

This week, we were pleased to contribute to research on homelessness prevention across the UK led by Institute for Social Policy, Housing, Equalities Research (I-SPHERE).

It was a valuable opportunity to share insights from our frontline work supporting women facing multiple disadvantage, poverty, homelessness, and exclusion from support systems.

Research like this matters. The voices and experiences of frontline organisations — and the women we support — must be part of shaping policies and services that genuinely prevent homelessness rather than simply respond to crisis.

Thank you to Jill and the team at I-SPHERE for creating space for these conversations and for including us in this important work.
