Balsall Common Primary School Balsall Common Primary School is a three form entry, semi-rural primary school. We are over 100 years old having opened on 22 September 1913.

Volunteers Needed: Help Launch Junior parkrun in Balsall Common!
With the support of Parish Councils and local charities, it is planned to launch a Junior parkrun at Lavender Hall Park for 4–14 year olds this Summer — BUT a pool of volunteers is needed to be in place before they can secure approval with parkrun UK and finalise a start date. We know that many of our pupils love to run and we are reaching out to our school community for your support to help to make a parkrun in Balsall Common happen!
🏃 Support a fun 2km run for our local 4 – 14 years olds
📅 Volunteer roughly once every 3 weeks (flexible)
⏱ Just 45 minutes on a Sunday morning (from 08:45)
🙌 Roles include marshalling, timekeeping & results
No experience needed – full training provided. Parents, carers, grandparents or ANYONE can support the Balsall Common community to launch our very 1st parkrun.

Our school fish aquarium is looking very lively now thanks to kind donations from our parent community.
Many thanks to the Woodruff family, Annabel 5C and Hugo 1R who donated colourful aquarium plants ornamental rock which has added lots of character and colour.
A big thank you to the Priestley family Emma 3P and Sophie RC who have donated many fish now from their aquarium. We were down to around 2 fish at one point so having so many now is such a nice change and very calming and relaxing for staff and pupils.
We would also like to thank Mr Bird for the addition of the Spongebob and Squidward house which causes so much excitement with the children. He is under pressure to try and find Patrick’s house now, fingers crossed.

A message from Mr Mitchell. Before half term, our Year 6 children undertook their SATs tests. These give a set of outcomes relating to reading, spelling, grammar and mathematics – a fairly narrow set of academic measures. Nonetheless, we expect our children to achieve well in these assessments because of their strength of character and all the diligent, hard work they put in over years at our school. I have been so proud of the Year 6 children throughout this week as they have supported one another, given their very best efforts and shown their resilience under pressure. They are FABULOUS!

This would not be possible without the staff team we have here. Obviously, those who currently work in Year 6 have a huge role to play in the children’s success, but so many more have played their part over the years… and I am grateful to them all. As children progress through our school, the care, support, motivation and dedication shown by the staff team here is superb. Whatever the outcomes in tests, we know that the children have experienced the best we could deliver for them.

Our Year 3 & 4 BCPS Girls football team competed in the Let Girls Play Event where they qualified for the semi finals with 2 wins and 2 losses in the group stage. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be for them as we lost in the semi-final to a very good Milverton side. However, the girls showed great character, passion and communication in all their games and represented the school fantastically.
BCPS Player of the tournament – Hollie B (3H)

Our Year 5 & 6 BCPS Girls football team also qualified for the semi-finals with a strong group stage campaign of 3 wins and 3 draws. The semi-final v Milverton was a very tense and scrappy game which led to penalties. Up stepped Bella L (6N), Libby G (6B) and Libby P (5C) to slot their penalties away. Shout out to Bella F (6B) who saved all 3 of the penalties she faced! We advanced into the final where are girls showed a great spirit after a long day of football. A late goal from captain Bella L (6N) meant we won the final 1-0!
A fantastic event all round and a massive congratulations to all the girls who competed!!!
