Youth-Led Firework Safety Event in Lurgan Town Hall

Tonight, we hosted our Youth-Led Firework Safety Event in Lurgan Town Hall!

The evening was packed with activities to help young people learn how to stay safe around fireworks, including:

🟠Stop, Drop and Roll🟠

🟠Learning how to treat burns caused by fireworks🟠

🟠A question-and-answer activity with the PSNI🟠

🟠A question-and-answer activity with the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service🟠

A massive thank you to all the young people who helped plan and host tonight’s event. You all did an amazing job, and you should be proud of yourselves!

We also want to thank all the young people who came along, got involved and took part in the activities. Your participation helped make the evening a success!

Finally, a big thank you to the PSNI and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service for supporting the event and sharing their knowledge with our young people.

🎭 SPEAK UP, STAND TOGETHER! 🗣️💙

Tonight, we took a fantastic group of young people along to the PCSP “Speak Up” Hate Crime Awareness Play! 🙌

Everyone had a brilliant evening, enjoying an engaging and thought-provoking performance while learning more about hate crime, respect, diversity and the importance of speaking up. 💬✨

💙 Every voice matters, and together we can make our communities safer, kinder and more inclusive!

A massive thank you to the Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) for organising such a worthwhile event and giving our young people the opportunity to get involved, learn and have their voices heard! 👏

As the evenings get darker, colder and slower, our commitment to detached youth work doesn’t stop. In fact, these are often the times when young people need us most.

Detached youth work is about meeting young people where they are, being present in their spaces and showing them that someone cares. It’s about stepping out into the community, building trust, offering support and creating opportunities for young people to talk openly without judgement or pressure.

💬 Building relationships takes time. It starts with a simple hello, a familiar face, a quick chat or just showing up consistently. Over time, those small moments can grow into meaningful relationships where young people feel safe, valued, listened to and understood.

❤️ The rewards are immeasurable. Seeing a young person open up, seek advice, share a concern, make a positive choice or simply look forward to seeing you makes every cold, dark evening worthwhile. Sometimes the biggest impact comes from the smallest interactions.

That’s why we continue to go out, even when the nights are long and the weather is against us. Because youth work isn’t just about being there when it’s convenient ,it’s about being there when it matters.

WORDS HAVE POWER!

Today, the team was in Tannaghmore Primary School working with the Primary 3 and Primary 4 classes! 🙌

Our Words Have Power workshop focused on understanding bullying, kindness and the difference between joking around and saying something that can hurt someone’s feelings.

We explored what these words actually mean and how the things we say and do can affect others. We reminded the young people that a joke is only funny when everyone is laughing!

A great day of learning, sharing ideas and encouraging kindness. Remember, your words matter, so choose them wisely!

💙 SATURDAY NIGHT ON THE STREETS! 🚶‍♂️🌙

Another busy Saturday evening for our detached youth work team, out and about engaging with children and young people across our communities! 🙌

With World Mental Health Day today, it’s a timely reminder that sometimes the smallest conversation can make the biggest difference. 💚

Youth work isn’t always about having the answers. Sometimes it’s simply about being there, listening and reminding young people that they’re never alone. 💬💙

We’re back out tomorrow for another evening of engagements!

💛 Out and about in our community! 🌟

We absolutely love getting out and about in our local community, making memories, meeting people, and exploring places ! 🥰

But it’s about so much more than just getting out and about. 🌍✨

Every detached session is an opportunity to experience something new, make choices, share smiles, have fun and help others feel a sense of belonging. Whether we’re visiting local parks, enjoying coffee in McDonalds with the young people, going for a walk or taking part in community activities, every moment matters. ❤️
And we love it because seeing the smiles, growing confidence, friendships and happy memories makes every outing worthwhile! 🫶

It’s not just about where we go, but the experiences we share, the connections we make and the joy we create along the way!💛😊

We will be back tomorrow 5-8 pm for our Saturday detached session. Come say high if you spy us. We love to see you all. 🤩

Friday Eve!!! Even on the rainy ,wet evenings ..DDYWP staff still pound the pavement. Just because the weather is dull, doesn’t mean our young people are. 😊 Many are still out enjoying themselves and engaging despite duller weather conditions 🔵.. The weekend ahead will remain the same .. we will be out and visual in our community, engaging , advising and building relationships..

Today we were back with the Lurgan Juniors, and we had a movie day! 🙌

We watched Wonka 🎶🍫, enjoyed loads of snacks and, most importantly, had a good laugh together!
