🚒 Inspiring the next generation at Berwick Fire Station 🚒

Berwick Fire Station recently welcomed 40 Year 10 students over two days, giving them a hands-on insight into the role of a firefighter.

The students took part in a range of practical activities, including hose running, breathing apparatus search and rescue and road traffic collision cutting techniques. They also explored important topics such as water safety and careers within the fire and rescue service.

The success of the event was made possible through the dedication of both Red Watch and the retained firefighters at Berwick Fire Station. Their contribution played a key role in delivering a safe, engaging and informative experience for all involved.

Berwick Fire Station is also home to a Fire Cadets unit, which provides young people with an opportunity to develop skills, confidence and an understanding of the fire service. The Cadet programme is always keen to welcome new members who are interested in learning more and getting involved.

🚒 Our Fire Cadets recently took part in a joint drill night with the Hexham and West Hartford branches, developing their practical firefighting skills through open water pumping exercises and familiarisation with ground monitors.

The evening concluded with a friendly hose drill competition, giving cadets the opportunity to put their teamwork, communication and operational skills to the test.

If you're interested in learning new skills, building confidence and being part of a team, our Fire Cadet programme could be for you.

🚒 A fond farewell to Billy 🚒

After more than 28 years of dedicated service, we say a heartfelt congratulations to Billy Davison on his retirement from his role as Station Manager.

Since joining the Fire Service in 1998, Billy has been a valued and respected member of Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service. His commitment, professionalism and friendship have made a lasting impact on colleagues across the Service. It’s been a privilege to have him as part of the team, and we know he leaves with many proud achievements and great memories.

While Billy may be stepping away from his Station Manager role, we’re pleased he’ll still be involved as a Wildfire Trainer - so this isn’t goodbye, just see you around!

Wishing Billy all the very best for this next chapter - you will be greatly missed 👏💙

🚒👨‍🚒 Child Safety Week 👩‍🚒🚒

Our crews had a fantastic time at Children’s Countryside Day, speaking to young people about keeping safe at home and around water. From fire safety tips to staying safe near open water, it was a great opportunity to help children build life-saving awareness.

We were also proud to work alongside the RNLI, sharing important water safety advice and reinforcing their vital Float to Live message - a simple technique that could save lives.

What is Float to Live?

If you find yourself in trouble in the water, fight your instinct to panic and thrash. Instead, tilt your head back with your ears submerged, relax your body, and try to control your breathing. Use your hands to help you stay afloat, then once you’re calm, call for help or swim to safety.

Stay safe, stay aware, and remember: a little knowledge can make a big difference 💙

🚗🔥 Road Safety Reminder 🔥🚗

Every journey matters and so does every decision you make behind the wheel.

Many road traffic incidents are preventable.

Please remember:
✅ Slow down - speed limits are there to protect everyone
📱 Put your phone away - one distraction is all it takes
🚫 Never drive under the influence - alcohol and drugs cost lives
🧍‍♀️ Look out for vulnerable road users - cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians
💺 Wear your seatbelt - every journey, every time

Your choices can save a life - maybe even your own.

Let’s keep Northumberland’s roads safe for everyone.

🚒 Children’s Countryside Day 🌾

We had a fantastic time attending Children’s Countryside Day in Wooler, during Child Safety Week - the perfect opportunity to engage with young people about staying safe at home, outdoors, and in our rural communities.

CCD celebrates our local heritage, supports the Glendale community and brings learning to life for thousands of young people each year.

With around 1,600 school children attending annually, our crews were proud to support this year’s event by speaking with children about:

✅ Home fire safety
✅ The equipment we use
✅ Staying safe in and around water

We also showcased some of our specialist resources, including our swift water rescue equipment, giving children a chance to see first hand how we help keep communities safe.

During Child Safety Week, it’s more important than ever to share simple, life-saving advice and events like this help us inspire young people to make safe choices every day.

A big thank you to the organisers and everyone who made the day such a success! 👏

🚒🔥 It’s Child Safety Week, and we’re shining a light on our little lifesavers in the making… say hello to Nico!

At just five years old, Nico is helping us share important fire safety messages with children across our communities. Learning simple actions like “Stop, Drop and Roll” and taking part in family fire safety routines can make a big difference.

At Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, we know that building safe habits early helps protect families for life. 💛

🌿💚 Volunteers’ Week in action! 💚🌿

The NFRS King’s Trust Team students had a fantastic day at Alnwick Gardens.

From weeding and creating flowerbeds, to helping prepare lunch for fellow volunteers, our young people rolled up their sleeves and made a real difference.

A huge thank you to the team at Alnwick Gardens for having us and supporting such a rewarding experience!
