Thank you Ma'am.

As things start to return to normal, I am looking forward to seeing more people.
My strategy over the last year has been to tick over and dramatically cut down the number of visits to more sure that I wouldn't spread covid to anyone.
I know that a lot of people have struggled with restrictions and lockdowns, so although I have fallen behind, I've not wanted to put pressure on anyone by turning up and expecting to hand over a bill.
I have been fortunate that my phone has kept ringing and I have kept ticking over.
If anyone is worried that I have missed you, please give me a call.
I am still going strong and I'm fully vaccinated.
It's time for me to pull my finger out and restore normal service.

So, the last few months have been tough.
Visiting multiple premises in a day dealing with dozens of people, some covid secure and some not so much, simply isn't safe or sustainable.
I have a backlog of outstanding jobs that I can never catch up with and I trying to stick to a level of work that feels safe and sustainable.
Next year will be the test for mine and many other businesses and hopefully, if us smaller businesses stick together we will get out the other side of this.

It's a difficult thing to restart confidently after lockdown as my days can involve multiple visits during the day, some covid secure and some not so much.
The bulk of my work is annual servicing and although we have a month's leeway either way, I have 4 months work to catch up on.
I am doing my best to get to the jobs I have missed and appreciate everyone's patience and continued support.

10 years ago I started Ideal Fire Protection on my own, from nothing and while I am not about to call time on it, I have decided that making multiple calls to customers in the short term carries more risk than benefit.
I am not going to pretend that the business isn't primarily a source of income, but over the years I have been able to work with the customers that I want to and care about.
It's for the safety of them and their families that I have decided to sit this one out.
When it is safe to do so, I will be back out there and catching up.
In the meantime, please stay safe and look after your loved ones.
I am of course always available by phone text or email, even just for a chat.
Stay safe.

On Tuesday I returned from Thailand and Myanmar via Bahrain.
Although I am symptom free, I decided yesterday that I would cancel a doctors appointment, 'just in case', so I phoned and told them where I had been.
The lady told me to self isolate for 2 weeks.
I said that I thought that I only needed to do that if I had symptoms and she said "it's up to you", but the symptoms don't show up for 5 days.
I decided that rather than be cavalier about it, I would stay home this week and not risk it.
I would feel terrible if I was responsible for someone catching anything.
Ironically there are more people infected in the UK than Thailand or Burma, but I know that my customers have kids and elderly or poorly relatives and I will take unnecessary chances.

As you can all imagine, as someone who makes a living from fire safety, the news of the tragedy at Grenfell House has hit me hard and my heart goes out to everyone involved.
He have been trying to come up a way to do something to help.
I am wondering if it would be a good idea to offer my customers fire safety awareness training that I normally carry out at £230 with the proceeds going to the victims.
If anyone thinks that might be a good idea and needs the training or knows someone who does, please get in touch and spread the word.
