Wessex Water Update

Following a period of record breaking heatwaves and lower-than-average rainfall, our water supply network is under increasing pressure.

We've seen record levels of demand for water and with more hot weather to come and no significant rain forecast, we've made the difficult decision to introduce a hosepipe ban.

The hosepipe ban starts on Tuesday 18 August at 00:01hrs. From this point customers must not use a hosepipe for activities covered by the restrictions.

Who is affected

The hosepipe ban applies to all customers in our region who we supply with water.

Customers with a valid exemption are not affected by the ban.

Please be aware that we have received a notification of a TTRN (urgent) road closure at High Street, West Coker which will commence on 17th August 2026 - 17th August 2026 (09:30 - 15:30) for a total of 6 hours.
This will enable Arboricare Ltd to carry out tree felling works.
The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is permitted on this occasion.

The works are expected to commence on 12th August 2026 and last for 3 days to enable Wessex Water to renew stop tap.
The contractor has indicated that access for Emergency Services through the site is not permitted on this occasion.

The order becomes effective on 05th August 2026 and will remain in force for eighteen months.

💍 When Two become one... 💍

In a display of unity, the two bins in the Recreation Ground car park have officially merged into a single litter and dog waste bin. (Wooden bin).

Why? Because the Parish Council now has to pay Somerset Council £405 per bin a year, for emptying.

The dog waste bin has therefore been removed, and all litter and dog waste (bagged) should now be placed in our wooden bin.

Scotts Way, Bow Bridge - Road Closure Notice
22nd June 26 – 17th July 2026

The road will be temporarily closed while essential riverbank maintenance works are carried out.

Road closures are never popular, but in this case it's a little bit of short-term pain for long-term gain. Without these works, there was a very real risk that the road could eventually have been closed permanently.

It has taken three years to secure the necessary approvals, with various hurdles along the way—including concerns about spawning salmon, which have remained somewhat elusive!

The good news is that the works can now go ahead, helping to protect both the riverbank and the future of the road.

Thank you for your patience while we endure a short-term inconvenience to avoid a long-term problem. The PC is waiting to hear further information on exact start and finish dates.
