Each year, the Parish Council, through the Misterton Resilience Team, organises Defib Training for ours and our neighbouring villages. In 2026, there was not enough interest to run the training, however, in a few months we will be publicising another training event planned for the spring of 2027. Meanwhile, here's a reminder of the defibrillator locations in Misterton.

Hosepipe Ban

We've been advised from the chief executive of Wessex water, there will be a hosepipe ban in force:

"From Tuesday 18 August at 00:01hrs our 1.4 million customers โ€“ in areas including Bath, and parts of Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire โ€“ must not use a hosepipe for activities such as watering gardens, washing cars, patios, paths and driveways, cleaning windows or filling swimming and paddling pools. "

Traffic through Misterton is a constant worry to the Parish Council and our top concern is the safety of residents.

Earlier this year we carried out a traffic survey which is available on the parish council website. We sent this to Somerset Council and our local MP, Adam Dance. Recommendations included a 20mph speed limit through the village and either a permanent or mobile speed camera to be located within the village to ensure the speed limit is complied with. Sadly, the initial response to the report has been very disappointing with all the recommendations being turned down. However, the Parish Council will continue to fight for improvements.

Following our meeting with Somerset Council Traffic Management a few days ago. They have agreed to do a number of things to try to improve the traffic through the village - more details of these will be available soon (we are waiting for confirmation in writing).

Despite the Parish Council having no jurisdiction over highways - we will continue to recommend improvements to the County Council.
Villagers can help. If you inform the Police or Somerset highways when you witness traffic offences, illegal parking and congestion causing problems, the weight of evidence will eventually become irresistible. Please provide details (ideally with time, place and number plate and any evidence) to the Police and Somerset County Highways. The Police can be contacted online (https://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/report) or by calling 101 and details of how to contact Highways can be found on the Somerset Council website (https://www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-travel-and-parking/report-a-problem-on-the-road).

Today the Parish Council met with the Somerset Road Traffic Engineers regarding the traffic through the village. This was to discuss a number of issues which have been reported to the PC by villagers over the last few months.
Issues included the traffic lights, which will become a permanent fixture on Station Road, and the parking which interferes with the flow of vehicles through the lights.
We also discussed the possibility of extending the 20mph speed limit and remarking the road where those lines have worn away. Parking throughout the village - where there are no easy answers - and the use of a Keep Clear box and double yellow lines were discussed as well as more general discussions on traffic levels.
Before any significant changes are made, we will, of course, consult those affected.

Yesterday, a BBQ was used at Bincombe Beeches, resulting in a fire. Fortunately, members of the public acted quickly and extinguished it before it could spread.

This could have had very serious consequences.

The prolonged warm and dry weather means that grass, undergrowth and trees are extremely vulnerable to fire. A single BBQ, discarded cigarette or open flame has the potential to cause significant damage to wildlife, destroy valuable habitats and put people and nearby properties at risk.

BBQs and open fires should not be used at Bincombe Beeches or any of the Council's open spaces.

If you discover a fire, move to a place of safety and call 999 immediately.

Please help us protect Bincombe Beeches so that everyone can continue to enjoy this beautiful nature reserve safely. Thank you for your support.
