🍂Ladies winter clothing appeal 🧥

As the seasons change, our shops are in need of your winter clothing donations. If you're having an autumn/winter wardrobe clear out, our shops would greatly appreciate your support! Funds raised in our shops help contribute to our wildlife rehabilitation work and our ever growing cat rehoming programme 🐱🦉

Presenting the utterly gorgeous Daffy!

Daffy is less than a year old and is hoping her new family is out there, as she's been really patient but no-one has applied for her.

Daffy came into our care pregnant... A kitten sadly already pregnant before she's had the chance to grow up herself. This experience has made her understandably timid, but she has started to come out of her shell in her foster home. All Daffy really needs is patience and love, and we know there is the perfect family out there just for Daffy.

Due to her shy nature, we believe Daffy could benefit from living with another cat to develop her confidence and really help her flourish. Perhaps a confident adult cat who can show her the ways of the world 🐈

Daffy would prefer an adult only home with no dogs. She's just a bit too nervous to cope with all that business. She would also really appreciate access to a garden away from busy roads, where she can safely explore and sunbathe to her hearts content ☀

Loki is 6 months old and full of energy, with a touch of mischief sprinkled in for good measure! 🐾

We are looking to re-home Loki to a loving home with a family who is around for a good part of the day. As Loki is still young a kitten, he can't be left for any longer than a few hours at a time.

Their new family will need to be at hand during their settling in period and give him the time to get used to his new surroundings.

We are looking for a home with a secure garden away from any busy roads as eventually Loki will need access to the outside via a catflap.

We've had a very small arrival at the centre this week, a teeny tiny 80g hoglet!

This tiny girl is the result of a secondary hedgehog breeding season. Female hedgehogs are capable of having a second litter in September and October, however these young have a much harder time than their early summer siblings. Autumn hoglets have to go through a hardcore bulking stage to ensure they have gained enough weight to survive winter, and the sad reality is that they don't always survive.

We'll be helping this little girl put on the necessary weight for winter, but you can also give wild hedgehogs a helping hand too by popping the following out in shallow trays:

🦔Fresh, meat based wet cat food (always a winner)
🦔Or a good quality hedgehog food (if your budget allows)
🦔Meat based cat biscuits (listen out for the crunching at night)
🦔Fresh water (hydration is an important factor)

Want to go a step further? Build leaf, log or compost piles in your garden to encourage more bugs and create an attractive site for hedgehogs. Just take care when tidying as you may just find a hedgehog has taken residence!

🦉 Over 1,500 animals have come through our doors so far this year.

Swifts. Foxes. Birds of prey. All rescued, rehabilitated and released back where they belong. More than 40 birds of prey alone needed round-the-clock care before they were strong enough to fly free again.

Among this year's admissions: over 200 water birds. Mallards, tufted ducks, swans, geese, gulls. As the risk from avian influenza has dropped, we've been able to take in and treat far more of these birds than before.

Most of our gull admissions were chicks that fell from roofs. A warehouse roof and a coastal cliff edge look the same to a gull chick. Food and water is all that matters, seaside or not. These chicks came from industrial estates and inner-city rooftops, nowhere near the coast.

None of this happens without our volunteers and donors. Thank you. 💙

1 year old Mia is still waiting for her forever home, she's been in foster care for some time now but has had zero applications! 😔

Mia is a petite and sweet natured girly with a BIG purr! Mia came into our care after living on the streets for a while. She had been abandoned and as she hadn’t been neutered, she found herself alone on the streets with kittens. This experience has understandably made Mia a nervous girl.

With time Mia is coming out of her shell and is learning that chin rubs are excellent and playtime is ace! Although Mia is gaining confidence, her new parents will need give her the time and space to settle into her home at her pace.

We believe Mia would thrive in a calm, adult only home with access to a garden away from busy roads. Mia would need to be the queen of her castle, and not share it with other pets.

When Joey came into our care, he had been left behind after the family he was living with moved away. The tip of one of his ears was missing, which told us he had previously been part of a trap, neuter and release programme.

It was no surprise that Joey was very nervous. He spent most of his time hiding, only coming out to eat and use his litter tray. Even taking him to the vets was difficult because he was so frightened.

His foster carer knew that Joey needed time, so she took everything slowly and let him come out of his shell at his own pace. Very slowly, he started to trust her. First it was a few minutes of play, then he would allow a couple of strokes.

Eventually, we felt Joey was ready for a quiet home with someone who understood that he might never be a cuddly lap cat. But we didn't receive any enquiries for him.

Then Joey's foster carer fell completely in love with him. She was due to move to Southampton for a medical placement and would no longer be able to foster for us, but decided that she couldn't leave Joey behind. She adopted him herself and gave him the forever home we had been hoping to find.

And we're so pleased to say that Joey is doing brilliantly. He now lets his guardian pick him up, sits with her and has become a loving and affectionate cat. 💚
