Many residents will by now have seen the news that my friend Jordan Montgomery who was a councillor for Wokingham Without has resigned as a councillor due to ill health

Jordan has been seriously ill for sometime and had been given a medial dispensation for his absence which was approved by all councillors last year.

Sadly, Jordan’s health continues to be a major concern for him, alhe has taken the very hard decision to stand down as a councillor to allow himself time to focus on his long term recovery.

Before his health challenges Jordan was an exceptional councillor focusing on helping all residents.

I very much hope Jordan recovers soon. I shall very much miss working with him.

After a busy work week, it was great to meet with residents this evening about speed of cars on Old Wokingham Road.

I will be arranging for a volunteer “speed watch”. And if you want lt to volunteer for the team let me know. We’ll also be restarting the New Wokingham Road speed watch

Tomorrow, I will be doing a walking surgery in Edgcumbe Park.

I’m trying to fix a time with Thames Valley Police to meet tomorrow to discuss the dangerous junction Easthampstead Road.

Next week- a busy a few days!

I’m meeting with Balfour Beatty on site to review the signage for the big road closure - it’s still not good enough.

We’ll also be discussing what help we can give to Holme Grange Craft Village on advertising.

Finally on Monday - I have a meeting at Shute End to get an update on the survey work on th drains under Nine Mile Ride and get an update on what work might be needed at the roundabout at New Wokingham Road

Time time to get the wellies out on Tuesday. We’re looking at the Ford at Red Lakes which needs some attention.

Scrutiny management committee prep coming up as well.

Finishing up this evening with some resident case work updates with a well earned G&T … and a possibly a takeaway from Zen Oriental - Crowthorne!

Changes to dates for junction reconfiguration

The timeline of key dates for our work at the junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road has changed.

Below, we have outlined how the area will look at each milestone, which roads will be closed and when we hope to have each phase completed by. The dates we have given are subject to change and we will update you as soon as we can if this happens.

The changes to the phasing dates have been designed to minimise disruption, in conjunction with other elements of the wider South Wokingham Distributor Road project and to reduce traffic build-up.

Our current phase remains on schedule and Heathlands Road will open on 13 February. We are aiming to have the improvements at this junction completed by mid-April.

Once this has happened, the ten-month closure of Easthampstead Road, between Star Lane and Heathlands Road, will follow.

We then expect to have the new link road finished and open at the end of May, which will significantly reduce the diversion route.

This will run from Easthampstead Road to the distributor road and join up with Waterloo Road.

Easthampstead Road will be closed from 8pm on Friday 13 February through to 6pm on Sunday 15 February. This is to allow essential Openreach infrastructure to be installed. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Phase 3 of work at the junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road
Above: how the next phase of work will look at this junction (click to enlarge)
Phase 3: Three-way lights (16 to 27 February)

There will be three-way temporary traffic lights on both Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road for two weeks.

We will be putting in new kerbs and doing work on the verges.

This will follow the current phase of work, which has seen Heathlands Road closed for five weeks.

Phase 4 of work at the junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road
Above: how the junction will look from during the fourth phase (click to enlarge)
Phase 4: Junction open (28 February to 16 March)

There will be a period when the junction will be open to traffic, with no work being carried out and no temporary traffic lights.

This is because we will be waiting for the work on our roundabout upgrade at the junction of Finchampstead Road and Molly Millars Lane to move forward.

We will not move into the next phase until Finchampstead Road reopens, although there will still be about two weeks of overnight closures (8pm to 6am) on the roundabout for the final surfacing work.

The current closure point for the roundabout work is south of the junction, between Molly Millars Lane and Tangley Drive.

During this time, construction of the distributor road will continue as planned. Arrangements will seek to minimise disruption and reduce traffic build-up, limiting the overall impact on the road network.

Phase 5 of work at the junction of Easthampstead Road and Heathlands Road
Above: how the junction will look when it is closed (click to enlarge)
Phase 5: Full closure (16 March to 10 April)

This is the final phase of the junction reconfiguration work and will see Easthampstead and Heathlands Road closed at all times for four weeks, with a diversion in place.

During the closure, we will be reconstructing the carriageway. This means the road surface is being dug up and so it’s not possible to safely allow vehicle movement.

There will also be drainage and paving work, as well as utility work, with much of this requiring underground investigations.

As stated above, this phase will only begin once Finchampstead Road is open during the day.

Flooding at Nine Mile Ride / New Wokingham Junction

Hi everyone! A quick update. I met with our highways team to look at the on going problems with flooding at this junction whenever it rains ……

The challenge here is multifaceted… which makes the fix more complicated and. Ire expensive.

In the coming months a much more detailed survery project will be undertaken to plot out where the problems are and why needs to be done.

Ultimately we know that there are probably sone quick wins.

Checking/cleaning the gullys alongside the raids that take a high volume of the Surface water.

Cleaning/clearing the drains to make sure the are as clear as possible.

The long term remedy will probably involve having to dig up the junction and redo the drains!

There are several very old drains in that area and we need to understand ten the next survey if they are blocked, or damaged.

The team have this high on the list for when the budget for next fiscal year is approved.

I’ll keep pushing for some remedial work - an you will see our engineers on site over the coming weeks
