How many spiders???

A little video taken on a recent authorised visit to the Watch House site. Everything is stripped back, the door has been moved, and the next stage is new electrical work and plastering. It hasn't been without its problems, but the team have solved them and it's all moving on.

It's wonderful to see that the Watch House work is going full speed ahead, but can we remind you that it's NOT a good idea to "pop your head round the door"? It is a building site - hard hats only - and there are walls coming down and being rebuilt, so it's not safe.

We'll do our very best to keep you informed regularly! Thank you for being interested.

A vision once held by Mick and Frank - two true pillars of the Cullercoats community and its heritage - is now becoming reality.

Thanks to over £300,000 raised by the community, trusts, and supporters, Phase 2 of the Watch House restoration is well underway. Inside works have revealed a stunning original vaulted ceiling hidden for decades behind a later addition, sparking real excitement about the building’s past.

This incredible project continues as a true community effort, with trustees, volunteers, architects, universities, and local people all working side by side to restore and reimagine this much-loved landmark.

While works continue, the charity remains active in the community thanks to the generosity of Fishermen’s Mission, hosting activities from a temporary base on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The goal remains the same: to create a sustainable, flexible space for community use so the Watch House can thrive for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this journey.

Today is the day so many have worked tirelessly towards. ❤️

Thanks to the dedication, generosity, and belief of our community, the conversations, heritage, and spirit of this very special place are set to be preserved for generations to come.

As the doors close to begin restoration works, we mark a truly historic milestone for the Watch House. It’s the start of an exciting new chapter - one that honours the past while carefully bringing this beautiful space back to life.

We can’t wait to welcome you back inside once it’s had a well-deserved dose of TLC… and we’ll be keeping everything crossed that there are no unexpected surprises hiding in the walls along the way! 🤞

Thank you for being part of this journey, this is your achievement as much as ours.

At the beautiful St George's Church Cullercoats last Saturday waiting for the Cullercoats Festival Songscape concert to start, I spotted this hassock featuring the Watch House.

There are lots of beautifully made hassocks. Does anyone remember when these were sewn? Were you part of the team who made them?
