Henllys Way Play Park Update

Henllys Community Council (HCC) have made an application for an Order under Section 53(2) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 modifying the Definitive Map and Statement for the Area to Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) to include the footpath through Henllys Way play park.

As part of this process, HCC have served notice on the owner that the application has been made.

The application included witness statements from Henllys residents, for which we are very grateful. If any other Henllys residents want to provide a witness statement we can add those to the application.

This means that HCC are asking that the footpath within the park which connects Henllys Way to Tegfan Court is recorded as a public right of way by TCBC.

We have been advised that this process will take several months to complete.

We have also been advised that during this process any comments on social media will be unhelpful.

📢 Good news!

Following further discussions with our stallholders and a new bouncy castle provider, we are delighted to announce that this year's Fete has been rescheduled for Saturday 12 September.

We'd like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding following the difficult decision to postpone the event because of the extreme weather forecast. We really appreciate the support we've received from the community and from everyone involved.

A very special thank you goes to Adrian, our Clerk, who has worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to pull everything together and make the rescheduled event possible.

We still have room for a few more stalls, so if you'd like to be part of this year's Fete, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact our Clerk at [email protected] for more information.

We hope you'll come along on Saturday 12 September and help make it a fantastic day for our community. We look forward to seeing you there!

Fete Cancelled

It is with great disappointment that we have made the very difficult decision to cancel this year's Fete.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but with temperatures forecast to exceed 30°C on Saturday, we have to put the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved first – our volunteers, stallholders, exhibitors and, of course, our visitors.

As many of you will know, we took the difficult decision last week to cancel the Dog Show because of the forecast heat. We have now also been informed that our regular bouncy castle company is unable to operate their equipment safely in these temperatures.

We experienced similar conditions last year, when attendance was much lower than hoped and a number of stallholders understandably decided not to attend on the day. With all of this in mind, we feel cancelling the Fete is the most sensible and responsible course of action.

We know many of you were looking forward to the day, and we share your disappointment. A huge thank you to everyone who has worked so hard behind the scenes, as well as to our stallholders, performers, and supporters for their understanding. We really do appreciate all the time, effort and enthusiasm that has gone into planning this year's event.

Due to the weather forecast predicting temperatures of up to 30 degrees next weekend we have taken the sensible decision to cancel the dog show.

Please still come along, all our other activities will be under shade - henna, hair braid/stencils, hook a duck and the mystery of Dobby's socks!! We will also have a display of what we do at Henllys Rotary.

There are plenty of other organisations attending the fete with lots of lovely stalls.
