Busy evening for the team. Well done all involved 👏

🚨SHOUT 📟 Crew were paged at 15:46 yesterday to assist Dyfed-Powys Police, HM Coastguard - Broad Haven and HM Coastguard Dale in a shoreline search for a missing person (MISPER) around Broad Haven beach. This initial search didn’t produce any results so the boat returned to station, before being tasked a second time at 20:01 to assist RNLI St Davids Lifeboat and Helo R924 from Newquay on a wider search further out to sea. After an update from the Police, the search operation was then moved inland and we were able to return to station again to be made ready for service. A great team effort all round.

⚠️ Public Safety Reminder ⚠️

We’re once again urging everyone to stay away from Ward’s Yard in Milford Haven and Criterion Quay (also known as the offshore jetty) in Pembroke Dock.

These areas are:
❌ Private property
❌ Not safe for public access
❌ Located next to deep water with serious hazards

Entering these sites without permission is trespassing and could lead to prosecution.

If you see suspicious activity, please report it to Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.

If you find yourself in the water, your first instinct may be to panic. But Float to Live could save your life 🌊

1. Tilt your head back, submerging your ears.

2. Relax and try to control your breathing.

3. Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.

4. Your legs may sink but that’s OK – everyone floats differently.

5. Find your float by practising at a supervised location, such as your local swimming pool.

Share this lifesaving advice with someone you care about, so they know what to do if they get into trouble in the water.

🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

After being asked by lots of our supporters, we are absolutely delighted to announce the launch of our special 50th anniversary summer virtual 5k event!

Following on from last year’s success, we are launching a special 50th anniversary virtual 5K and we are hoping teams from across the country will get involved and join in the fun.

As Coastguards are used to training in all sorts of weather and with the old saying, if it’s not raining, it’s not training, we want to try our best to give everyone the opportunity to get outside, exercise and get some fresh air in the better weather!

And that’s why our 50th anniversary virtual 5K will take place from 1st June until 31st August 2026 so there’s plenty of time to get out to complete the distance, make the most of the weather and perhaps even make it an international affair by doing it if you are lucky enough to be jetting off to warmer climates.

Similar to previous events, you can complete the 5K distance by any means so feel free to walk, jog, run, cycle, skate, row or any other form of self-propelled travel!

We have also joined up with Erdinger Alkoholfrei who are supporting our 50th anniversary summer virtual 5K and will be providing a number of prizes!

Entry is £15 per person, and each participant will receive a special commemorative 50th anniversary 5K medal and all money raised goes directly to supporting Coastguards past, present and future.

Even on warm, sunny days, cold water can be dangerous 🥶

Entering water below 15°C can trigger an involuntary gasp for air, followed by rapid, uncontrollable breathing. If this happens in the water, it can make it difficult to keep your airway clear and increase the risk of inhaling water and drowning.

To reduce the risk:

• Check the water temperature and tide times before deciding to go in.

• Avoid swimming alone, go with others - doesn't have to always be with a group, but just having one other person there could help.

• Be seen. Wear a brightly coloured swim cap and consider using a floatation device or tow float.

• Wear a wetsuit appropriate for your activity.

• Enter the water slowly to allow your body to adjust to the temperature and help regulate your breathing.

• Know your limits; cold water shock can affect anyone, including experienced swimmers.

In a coastal emergency, minutes matter. Could you tell someone exactly where you are if you or a loved one needed help?

When you call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, one of the first questions you’ll be asked is: “where are you?”. The moment you provide this information; the teams will dispatch the most appropriate responders. We have world-class systems to help us, but valuable time can be saved if you can give some location details.

There are very simple ways, as well as more advanced options, to help you stay safe and know your location.

• Before you leave: Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.

• Safety signs and location: Look for local safety signs depicting beach names and location references. Take a picture of local landmarks such as car park names and buildings.

• Location apps: Know how to use your location apps. Many smartphones now have a Global Positioning System (GPS) installed which pinpoints geographical locations.

• Mobile phone: Make sure your mobile is fully charged, ideally in a waterproof case. It’s also worth taking a power pack so you can recharge your phone, especially if your activities involve heavy battery use.

If you can tell us exactly where you are, rescuers can be sent more quickly. It could save a life.

Tide times and heights change daily, vary by location, and can differ throughout the month. However, they follow a predictable pattern, so they can be checked in advance.

Rapidly rising water can trap you in isolated bays, coves, or on sand bars, often with little or no warning and no easy escape route.

• Check the tide times before you leave home 🏠

• If you’re visiting a beach or bay, make sure you know where all the exit points are 🚶‍➡️

• Make sure you have enough time to get back as the tide comes back in ⌚

• Tell someone where you’re going and what time you’ll be back 📍
