In a coastal emergency, minutes matter. Could you tell someone exactly where you are if you or a loved one needed help?

When you call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, one of the first questions you’ll be asked is: “where are you?”. The moment you provide this information; the teams will dispatch the most appropriate responders. But valuable time can be saved if you can give some location details.

There are very simple ways, as well as more advanced options, to help you stay safe and know your location.

• Before you leave: Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.

• Safety signs and location: Look for local safety signs depicting beach names and location references. Take a picture of local landmarks such as car park names and buildings.

• Location apps: use apps like what3words . Many smartphones now have a Global Positioning System (GPS) installed which pinpoints geographical locations.

• Mobile phone: Make sure your mobile is fully charged, ideally in a waterproof case. It’s also worth taking a power pack so you can recharge your phone, especially if your activities involve heavy battery use.

If you can tell us exactly where you are, rescuers can be sent more quickly. It could save a life.

📟 Call out - 11/07/26 - Team paged at 16.15hrs to assist Angle Lifeboat RNLI at Dale & Milford Haven Port Authority Jetty.

📞 In a emergency at the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Angle lifeboat paged twice within 12 hours

At 3:00am this morning Sunday 12 July, the crew were paged following reports of a person who had fallen onto rocks at Freshwater West.
The lifeboat launched immediately and made best speed towards the scene. However, shortly after launching, it was confirmed that the casualty had been safely recovered from the rocks and was in the care of HM Coastguard Rescue Teams. With no further assistance required, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
This was the crew's second shout within 12 hours.
At 6.17pm the previous evening, the lifeboat had launched following reports that the skipper of a yacht was experiencing symptoms consistent with a possible heart attack.
The lifeboat made best speed to the yacht, which was alongside the outer pontoon at Dale, arriving on scene at 6.40pm. Two casualty care-trained crew members were transferred aboard to assess the casualty.
Following their assessment, it was decided that the casualty should be taken ashore for further medical evaluation. The casualty was transferred to the lifeboat and taken to the lifeboat berth at the Port Authority Jetty, where ambulance paramedics were waiting. The casualty was then conveyed to hospital by ambulance for further tests.
With no further assistance required, the lifeboat was stood down and made ready for service by 8.00pm.

Fully charged mobile phone – kept in a waterproof pouch so you can call for help 📱

Personal locator beacon – useful if you lose mobile signal 📍

Equipment labels – label your paddleboard, kayak and other watersports kit, so the Coastguard can check you’re safe if it’s found 🏷️

If you see someone struggling in the water, resist the urge to go in after them.

You could quickly become another person who needs rescuing.

Remember: Phone. Float. Throw.

Float: Encourage them to stay calm and float on their back with their ears submerged 🏊‍♀️

Throw: Throw any nearby rescue equipment to help them float until assistance arrives 🛟

Jumping from piers, marina walls, rocks and heights into water can be very dangerous 🤕

Enjoy our Pembrokeshire coastline responsibly by not jumping into the unknown 🌊

⚠️ Consider the risks to yourself and others. Young people could be watching and may attempt to mimic the activity.

⚠️The depth of water can dramatically change with the tide and you don’t know what hazards may be lurking under the surface.

⚠️ The shock of cold water may make it difficult to swim to safety and strong currents can quickly sweep people away.

✅ If you do want to jump from height into the sea we would advise people join a coasteering group with a professional and reputable adventure centre. But the risks are always there.

Busy evening for the team. Well done all involved 👏

🚨SHOUT 📟 Crew were paged at 15:46 yesterday to assist Dyfed-Powys Police, HM Coastguard - Broad Haven and HM Coastguard Dale in a shoreline search for a missing person (MISPER) around Broad Haven beach. This initial search didn’t produce any results so the boat returned to station, before being tasked a second time at 20:01 to assist RNLI St Davids Lifeboat and Helo R924 from Newquay on a wider search further out to sea. After an update from the Police, the search operation was then moved inland and we were able to return to station again to be made ready for service. A great team effort all round.
