To support Carers Week, 8-14 June Darlington Carers Support will be visiting Darlington Libraries on Monday, 8 June, from 10am-1pm with leaflets, support and advice. Everybody is welcome. Please pop along for information, to find out what support is available and how to access it, or simply for a chat.

Carers Week is a national UK awareness campaign that recognises and supports unpaid carers who look after family members and friends. It highlights their challenges and celebrates their vital contribution.

This year's theme, building carer-friendly communities, focuses on making everyday environments more supportive and understanding of carers.

Are you, or is someone you know, an unpaid carer?

Next Friday we're celebrating !

We know that not every child is lucky enough to have a bedtime story. On Friday 12th June we're supporting BookTrust so together, we can keep on gifting books to those who need them most. 📖📚

Come down to Bookstart rhymetime on Friday 12th June in your PYJAMAS! and bring a £1 donation to help us raise money for Booktrust.

On the day, you can donate in cash, or via the QR code we will display in the library.

We wanted to share with you some of the amazing resources you can access in our collection in The Centre for Local Studies at Darlington Library so we came up with 'The A-Z of Local Studies'!
We're as far as , which is for... Posters!

Did you know we collect posters here at the library? We have a large collection and they range in date from the 1820s right up to 2026.
Why, you might wonder? Well, posters are a means of communication, designed to convey information succinctly using text and/or imagery (how they’ve changed over the years is an interesting topic in itself). We have sales and auction posters listing land, buildings, or house contents for sale. We have election posters promoting various candidates and giving us fascinating insights into the politics and issues of the day. We have posters giving warnings and advice, appealing for wanted criminals or urging us to watch out for pickpockets. We have posters advertising events, concerts, day trips and openings. In fact, so much of Darlington’s history is revealed in the poster collection!

P is also for Parish Registers, Patons & Baldwins and Pubs.

New display!
Call in and see our June display of photographs from the Richard Gaunt Collection. Richard’s evocative images of everyday life in the late 1960s were taken during a period of significant change in Darlington.
