Learning & Skills is a further education and training provider in Darlington, offering FREE courses, apprenticeships, and personalised support to help learners aged 16+ build confidence, upskill, and move into employment. We are a leading provider of free Functional Skills English, Maths and ICT, as well English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses in Darlington and Teesside. We pride ou

rselves on providing the qualifications and quality education you need. We also specialise in quality Apprenticeship training across a variety of sectors including Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Site Joinery and Carpentry, Adult Care, Leadership and Management and lots more. We have dedicated workshops for our Apprenticeship training. Our Study Programme based in the heart of the Town Centre is renowned for helping 16-18 year olds develop real world employability skills, as well as their maths and English. These programmes also increase their employability skills and allow them vital work experience to then progress into an apprenticeship or other further training. Finally, we offer a huge variety of accredited (and free) adult community learning courses to help you gain those vital qualifications to help you source employment, upskill in your current workplace or to learn something new and exciting.

From day one, Maisie showed real drive and determination, quickly building confidence and taking on responsibilities during her apprenticeship at Johnson Solicitors

After excelling in her A-Levels, Maisie joined the apprenticeship programme with a clear goal—becoming a qualified solicitor. Thanks to her hard work, commitment and the support around her, Maisie is now on track to complete her apprenticeship early and progress onto a Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship while starting her university studies 📚⚖️

Joanne was stuck in a rut, unsure of her next steps, when she first heard about Learning & Skills through a friend.

Seeing someone she knew progress through a course and move into employment gave Joanne the confidence to take that all-important first step. She quickly realised that once you begin, the opportunities really can be endless.

Joanne enrolled on our Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools, is now about to complete her Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges, and is set to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

In the space of just a year, Joanne has gone from stuck to striving. We are incredibly proud of her journey—at Learning & Skills, we don’t just see where you are now, we see where you’re going, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead 💙
