πŸ“’ Thank You

We would like to thank all our patients, communities and partners for their support and understanding, as well as our colleagues across the Trust for their hard work and dedication in preparing for the resident doctors' industrial action that was due to begin today.

Following national discussions, the planned resident doctors' strike has been called off.

Please continue to attend any appointments, procedures and treatments as planned, unless you are contacted directly by the NHS.

🚭 Litter Pick Reveals the True Cost of Smoking

Thousands of cigarette butts were cleared from around Darlington Memorial Hospital and surrounding streets during a recent litter pick led by public health colleagues and the Darlington Stop Smoking Hub.

In just two hours, around 5,000 cigarette butts were collected β€” highlighting the environmental impact of smoking, with each butt taking up to 10 years to break down.

There's never been a better time to quit, with a range of support available including medication, vapes and Ni****ne Replacement Therapy (NRT).

Yesterday, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) reports relating to our Surgical Services, Community Health Services for Adults and Well-led arrangements were published.

We fully accept the findings of the reports and apologise where we have fallen short of the standards our patients, communities and colleagues rightly expect.

Since the inspections took place in late 2025, significant work has already been undertaken across the Trust to strengthen patient safety, improve governance, support our staff and enhance the quality of care we provide.

While we recognise there is more to do, progress is already being made in a number of areas.

Our focus remains on delivering the improvements identified, being open and transparent about our progress, and ensuring those improvements are felt by our patients, communities and colleagues.

We will continue to work closely with the CQC, NHS England and North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board to deliver further improvements and provide regular updates on our progress.
