Kent Deserves Democracy Kent Deserves Democracy is a campaign group for fair voting at parliamentary & local level. Email: [email protected]

Fair means regulations should prevent groups with deepest pockets buying elections; fair means proportional elections. We have links with the national campaign groups Make Votes Matter, Get PR Done and Councils for PR, and like them we are a cross party / no party campaign group. We believe that with fair proportional voting and the genuine multi-party system that it brings, 1.5 million residents

of Kent will a enjoy much greater chance of holding to account those who are elected to office, and thus there will be a greater opportunity to vote out MPs or councillors who are found to be working for lobbyists instead of the electorate. MVM and GPRD are both signatories of the Good Systems Agreement and we support their position.

3 of the 4 UK nations have assemblies elected by PR but England's regions sadly do not. Good proportional systems are ones which keep a constituency link; it is a lie that PR means watering down the link between representative and constituency. In Scotland the AMS system allows voters to have a constituency representative and a representative from a list, according to the proportion of votes cast for each party. AV, considered in 2011, was not a proportional system. Canterbury Progressives also has a link with Make Votes Matter and we hope to work with this group.

⏰ It's a crucial time for the campaign for Proportional Representation.

Tomorrow, Makerfield is facing a crucial by-election which might well determine the future not just of the constituency, but of the country.

With rumours of an upcoming Labour leadership challenge, we must be ready to make sure electoral reform is front-and-centre of the debate.

With your help, we can brief MPs and cabinet ministers, produce high-quality research and build up local activism in key areas. This is a crucial time for the campaign, and we can't afford not to make the most of it.

That’s why, with the support of our major donors, we are launching a match fund that allows any donation you make over the next week to be doubled.

That’s right: for the next week, for any pound you donate, we’ll get two.

So if you haven't contributed yet to our crowdfunder, now is a great time to do so.

Today Keir Starmer announced he will be resigning as Prime Minister. It is hard to overstate how remarkable that is. His government won 63% of all MPs on just 34% of the vote in 2024, gi

Labour's leadership "coronation" is already attracting criticism. But there's a strong democratic and constitutional case for MPs alone choosing the next PM.

What do you think? Should party members get a say? Should there be an election?

Westminster should work for everyone – not just those who can buy influence. But amazingly, there is no limit on how much money can be invested in influencing politicians. Right now Parliament is debating changes to the rules that govern elections and political funding. We have a rare opportunity to put a cap on how much anyone can spend on influencing our politics.

💥 The pressure for a fair voting system is growing inside Westminster.

More than 100 MPs have already signed an amendment to the Representation of the People Bill, calling on the government to get to grips with Britain's dysfunctional voting system.

Tabled by , the amendment calls for an independent National Commission on Electoral Reform, which could recommend an alternative to First Past the Post.

It's becoming more and more clear that Britain's democracy is in crisis. Most of the public knows that the way we do politics in this country is not working.

This amendment is an opportunity to make the government listen.

Scotland has just done something that now feels almost radical in UK politics: it produced an election result that actually reflects how people voted. This isn’t via an accident; it ha
