Possible sale of Betteshanger Country Park. Sholden Parish Council has received notification from Dover District Council saying:

"Good Afternoon

We have today been notified by the owners of Betteshanger Country Park that they intend to dispose of the property.

As the property is listed as an asset of community value, the moratorium process commences today and will end on 05 August 2026. Any community interest groups who wish to be treated as a potential bidder will need to submit a request in writing to the Council by the 05 August 2026. If no such requests are received by this date, Betteshanger Country Park will then be within the protected period.

If we do receive a request from a community group to be treated as a potential bidder before 05 August 2026, the full moratorium period will come into force. In this case, the potential bidder/community group will have until 24 December 2026 to prepare a business plan and finance.

After the moratorium period, either the 6 weeks if there has been no community interest, or the full 6 months, the property will then be within the protected period during which the owners are free to sell to whomever they choose. The protected period will end on 24 December 2027."

I attach a copy of the disposal site notice which will be displayed in the vicinity of the property today. Please feel free to display the notice on your parish notice board(s) if you wish to do so.

Walmer Cricket Club

Walmer Cricket Club, which is in the heart of Sholden, would like to remind local residents that Hull Park is a privately owned cricket ground. Local people are permitted to use the ground but must adhere to the rules which are detailed by the entrance gates.

In recent months Cricket Club officials have seen an increasing number of dogs either being let off leads or walked inside the white boundary line. This rule is to protect our players (especially our juniors) from potential health issues caused by dog faeces and also to ensure that dogs avoid potential serious illness from chemicals which are regularly sprayed onto the grass within the boundary line.

The Cricket Club has also seen an increase in unsupervised children breaching the rules for playing football and riding bikes or scooters on the grass.

The Club has now reached a position where they will only remind dog owners or children once of the need to comply with our rules which are to ensure health and safety and no damage to our ground and equipment. Subsequent breaches may lead to such breaches being reported to the Police, footballs and bikes being confiscated and requiring a significant fee to regain them. People are reminded that the Club has CCTV that covers almost all of the ground and can be used to assist with prosecutions.

We acknowledge that the majority of local people abide by our rules and it would not be our wish to have to cease allowing use of our ground to nearby residents which we have allowed for over 40 years, however we need to see a cessation in the issues that have recently increased.

Good morning folks

Please be aware that convincing fake Scottish £50 notes are being tendered by fraudsters in licensed premises in Kent … if in doubt refuse to accept the £50 notes & do NOT provide the fraudsters any change.

Where possible seek to retain the counterfeit currency, record details of any vehicles persons passing the fake notes are seen to be using including registration plates, preserve any CCTV footage of those tendering the notes & contact Kent Police.

On Monday evening Sholden Parish Council held its Annual Parish Meeting and its Annual Parish Council meeting! Exciting stuff!! The draft minutes of both meetings are on our website under Council.

Whilst many items may be of interest, we know that there are numerous residents concerned about, amongst other matters, the possible sale of Betteshanger Country Park. We have produced a background brief on that matter. It can be found, again on our website, under "News". I hope it is useful, in particular paragraph 12.
