Havant Civic Society’s aim is to conserve, improve and cherish the important features of Havant’s distinctive heritage whilst seeking to encourage quality design in any new developments in order to enhance the town. We want Havant to be a thriving Borough centre with a sound cultural and economic base.

A town that residents can be proud of and one which people want to visit. We provide informed opinion and direct representation regarding planning within Havant Town Centre. Central to our effectiveness is the political impartiality that we adhere to in all our decision-making and the dedication of our annually appointed committee. The Society was first formed in response to some major planning consultations in the town which required an organised consensus of opinion to ensure the voices of local residents and stakeholders were heard. In our infancy, we have succeeded in becoming established as a source of valued opinion by developers, specialists, and community trusts as well as planners, all of whom have engaged with us as trusted partners in understanding the archaeology and built environment within the conservation area.

This development proposal for an 80 bed care home at the Oak Park site is just part of the original vision for the Hampshire County Council owned Oak Park site which has been in the Havant local plan for several years.

This is a pre-planning consultation by the developer's agent. A formal planning application may be submitted later in the year.

HCS has been following the long-delayed proposals for redevelopment of the Oak Park site for many years now, and former councillor and local campaigner Ann Buckley has been more active than most in…

There's a very short survey at the bottom of this post. Given the current state of the Havant Borough Local Plan and the track record of questionable planning decisions in this area, we'd be interested in your responses and comments.

After several years standing vacant and with previous marketing efforts failing to secure a buyer, the site has now been placed into auction by Lambert Smith Hampton as an Industrial Development Op…

Havant Civic Society has been informed by Cash Access UK that they have signed a Leasehold Property Agreement (LPA) with Havant Borough Council for the temporary home for Havant’s Banking Hub. The …

If you're interested in the ongoing saga of the recent and costly downgrade of the HBC Planning Services 'Public Register', this article puts the spotlight on Arcus Global, the software provider selected by HBC as the provider of 'the cheapest solution' back in 2023.

Our webmaster has given the front page a bit of a facelift to keep the site going until it gets a complete overhaul later in the year. If you've not looked for a while, why not give it a go? And if you're looking on a phone, try rotating it to 'landscape' for a better view.

The front page format has been much the same since the current site was launched back in 2018 – that’s over five hundred articles ago – so the webmaster felt it was time for a cha…

Spring cleaning website posts here at HCS and the editor has just turned up this one from SIX YEARS AGO. We can honestly say that six years into that experiment, the 40% saving has been proven completely correct.

What we didn't realise back then was the additional massive improvement made by recycling both soft and hard plastic waste.

It's time to roll these policies out wider and faster Havant Borough Council!!

Since the start of the year, I’ve been taking part in the City of Portsmouth’s Food Waste recycling trial. Perhaps not officially, you understand, but through the good offices of a clos…

So an empty shop next to an empty bank might not be left empty for much longer. The good news is that this extension to the 'nail and beauty spa' infrastructure is being implemented in advance of the 1,800 new homes at Southleigh.
