Archaeological evidence shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples built sophisticated fishing traps thousands of years ago, demonstrating advanced engineering and deep environmental knowledge. Stone arrangements such as the Brewarrina Fish Traps (Baiame’s Ngunnhu) in New South Wales and the aquaculture systems at Budj Bim in Victoria were designed to guide, hold, and harvest fish as water levels changed. These structures are among the world’s oldest known fishing systems and reflect sustainable food practices developed over millennia.

Mount Isa has recorded its wettest February.

🌧️Around 40mm fell last night, taking the February total to 318.6mm for Mount Isa.😲

💧The previous record was at the old Mount Isa Post Office Site of 282mm, set back in 1930

💧The Mount Isa Aero station (airport) record was set in 2019 – 278mm

👉We still have a few more days left in the month, so the new 2026 record could climb even higher

His Excellency The Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia, has passed on his condolences following the death of legendary broadcaster Dennis Cometti AM.

"Mr Cometti was a great West Australian," the Governor said.

"He not only left his mark across Western Australia, the WAFL and the AFL, but used his unique skill and voice to illuminate Test cricket, as well as Australian efforts on the world stage at many Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

"He had that rarest of gifts: the ability to elevate a moment without overwhelming it. Dennis Cometti did not simply describe sport — he enriched it."
