Is an older fire door automatically a failing one? Not necessarily.

Government guidance makes clear that a door built to the standards of its time can still offer adequate protection, as long as it's undamaged and the gaps aren't too large. Whether it's adequate is a question for your fire risk assessment, not the routine check.

In our latest guide, we explain what a fire door inspection really involves, what gets checked and how often, so you can stay compliant without guesswork.

🔥One small detail could invalidate your flame-resistant workwear (most businesses never think about it).

FR workwear is designed to protect against heat, flames, chemicals and debris. But protection isn’t just about the fabric.

It’s also about the stitching.

Standard embroidery threads can melt under extreme heat. This means branding added after purchase can potentially compromise the garment’s fire rating.

So the question becomes: If an incident occurs… who carries the liability?

At OHEAP Fire and Security, we provide:

✅Standard embroidery
✅Certified flame resistant embroidery
✅Branding that protects both image and safety standards

Last week, a Brighton landlord was fined over £11,000 for breaching fire safety legislation. Here's what went wrong...

At the landlord's property, several fire risk assessments were conducted. The fire hazard findings included:

🔥Combustible items stored incorrectly in the property
🔥A faulty kitchen door found propped open
🔥An unsecured and unprotected electrical intake cupboard
🔥A mattress obstructing the ground floor escape route
🔥Multiple missing and faulty fire detection equipment

Each of these findings breached the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, compromising the landlord's compliance and their tenants' safety.

However, even years after the findings were identified, they remained unchanged across several risk assessments. Ultimately, it was the landlord's inaction in addressing the findings that caused the fines.

Staying compliant with fire safety regulations doesn't have to be daunting. At OHEAP Fire and Security, we offer jargon-free risk assessments that provide simple next steps to removing hazards and keeping your property safe.

In an office, these fire hazards often get missed...

Office fire safety can seem simple until you consider that many risks stay hidden until they're triggered, and regulations keep evolving.

Here are the most commonly overlooked office fire risks our assessors see:

🔥Propped-open fire doors
🔥Daisy-chained or overloaded plugs
🔥Insufficient emergency lighting
🔥Poorly stored hazardous chemicals
🔥Cigarettes disposed of near bins

Each hazard is easy to fix once spotted... but only if someone's looking.

At OHEAP Fire and Security, our risk assessors deliver jargon-free reports. We won't 'fail' you or judge you. Instead, we give clear guidance to fix hazards and keep your building compliant and safe.
