A few weeks ago, we were delighted to host the STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming at Lonsdale Pool.

It was fantastic to see many aspiring swimming teachers develop their knowledge, skills and confidence throughout the course. We'd like to congratulate everyone who successfully completed the qualification and thank them for all of their hard work and commitment.

We wish you all the very best for the future and hope you enjoy helping swimmers of all ages build confidence in the water and develop a skill for life.

What a fantastic summer it's been!

Over the past few weeks, we've loved welcoming so many children to our Summer Swimming Crash Courses. It has been brilliant to see swimmers of all abilities growing in confidence, developing new skills and making great progress in such a short space of time.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to all the parents and carers for your continued support. Our instructors have enjoyed every minute of helping the next generation of swimmers.

Important Notice for Lonsdale Pool Customers

Please note that Lonsdale Pool will be closed for its annual shutdown week from Monday 24th August.

The pool will re-open on Wednesday 2nd September, with all swimming lessons and public sessions resuming as normal.

Thank you for your patience while we carry out our scheduled maintenance. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the pool on 2nd September.

Everyone has their own reason for coming to our pools. For some, it's learning to swim. For others, it's catching up with friends at Aquafit, spending quality time together at Family Fun Swim, or simply enjoying a peaceful swim. 🏊

Whether you're spending time with family, friends or your local community, don't forget to stay safe while enjoying this special event. If you're watching the eclipse, always use certified eclipse glasses or another approved viewing method—never look directly at the Sun.

Being in the peak summer holiday season, many families will be spending more time around pools, rivers, lakes and the coast. ☀️💦

Please take a few simple steps to stay safe around water:

Always supervise children closely
Choose lifeguarded swimming areas where possible
Never swim alone
Check the depth before entering the water
Keep away from unfamiliar or fast-moving water
Call 999 in an emergency and ask for the Coastguard when near the coast

A little extra care can help everyone enjoy the water safely this summer.

Our August Swimming Crash Courses are coming to Lonsdale Pool, with sessions available for children at different stages—from non-swimmers and beginners through to Stage 4+ improvers.

The five-day courses begin on Monday 17th August, with 30-minute lessons running each day to help children build confidence, improve their technique and make steady progress in the water.

Please note that these crash courses are available at Lonsdale Pool only. Spaces are limited, so early booking is recommended.

National Lifeguard Qualification is now available to book now at Lonsdale Pool.

Our National Pool Lifeguard Qualification – Gen 10 Plus AED course starts on Saturday 8th August 2026 at Lonsdale Swimming Pool.
This RLSS UK recognised qualification covers the essential skills, knowledge and practical training needed to work as a pool lifeguard, including AED training.

Course cost: £260, including assessment fees and course materials
Deposit: £60 to secure your place
Location: Lonsdale Swimming Pool, Mickleover, Derby

Candidates must be aged 16 or over before the course begins and meet the required swim fitness criteria.
