⏳ One week to go until food waste collections start in Derby! That means no more food waste sitting in your black or brown bins for two weeks!

You can start using your containers now so you're ready for your first collection next week. Here’s how👇

1️⃣ Line your grey caddy with any bag you want
2️⃣ Use it in the kitchen to collect your food waste indoors
3️⃣ Tie the bag and transfer it to your green outdoor container – keep the lid locked
4️⃣ Present it on your usual bin day from next week – with handles upright

✅ You can use any bag or liner, including bread bags, carrier bags or other reused household packaging – no need to buy anything new. All liners will be removed before recycling and processed through Energy from Waste (EfW).

⚠️ Don’t forget to write your house number on your green container to avoid mix-ups with neighbours

🟤 Brown bins will accept only garden waste from 31 March

📦 Haven’t received your containers? Request them here (select ‘lost/stolen’): https://orlo.uk/sXzAe

We love seeing our apprentices develop into confident professionals. Most of our apprentices that complete their training go on to full-time employment in their chosen field, and a lot of those stay on to enjoy a career with us.

Thanks to everyone that came and spoke to us at the apprenticeship open days this week. We hope you found them helpful.

Day 2 of National Apprenticeship Week 🙌

Today we celebrated by welcoming Sophie Bancroft, a former West Park pupil, back into school — now working at Derby Homes after securing an apprenticeship when she left school 🎉

Sophie spoke to our Year 11 pupils about:
✨ The wide range of Derby Homes apprenticeships now live
✨ Entry requirements and different routes in
✨ What makes a strong application
✨ The importance of transferable skills and how school experiences really do matter

It was brilliant for pupils to hear a real success story from someone who once sat in the same classrooms as them.

Just think — one day that could be you, back in school, inspiring the next cohort of Year 11s 💭
