How old is your smoke alarm? 🤔

Your smoke alarm instruction booklet will let you know how long yours will last and when to replace it.

If the instructions are no longer available, the general rule of thumb is to replace alarms every 1️⃣0️⃣ years! This goes for hard-wired smoke alarms too.

Planning a camping trip?

Make sure you're familiar with the fire plan at whichever campsite you're staying at, they all should have one.

Although plans will be site specific, standard practice includes:
⛺Pitching tents 6m apart to stop the spread of fire
⛺Guidance on BBQs/campfires
⛺Never BBQ inside the tent

DFRS and Derbyshire Cosntabulary (PLOD) recently attended Action Deafness’ coffee morning at Chesterfield Football Club ☕

The event is held on the second Friday of every month and provides vital support and information for deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing people in the local community.

Looking forward, in September we'll be joining the police in delivering a joint presentation to share more about the support and services available for our deaf communities.

It was great to be involved in the coffee morning! Thank you to Action Deafness for hosting such an inclusive and important event 👏

🤟 We’re proud to share a British Sign Language (BSL) version of our Fire Safety at Home for Carers visual guide. 🏠🔥

Created to help make fire safety information more accessible for deaf people in Derbyshire, the guide features a BSL overlay performed by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service staff currently studying for their Level 3 BSL qualification.

With support from the Royal School for the Deaf Derby the project aims to help make emergency communication clearer, more inclusive, and easier to access for everyone.

Please help us raise awareness of the guide so more deaf carers and members of the community can benefit from this important information. 💙
