Foster for East Midlands Councils

Foster for East Midlands Councils Together, let's shape a brighter future for every child. Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Councils need you. Join us.

Foster for East Midlands represents local authority foster care across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. From March 2024, we are joining together for the first time to recruit more foster carers and improve your journey and the outcomes for the children you care for. We're offering prospective foster carers increased levels of support through the creation of a regionalised recruitment hub. We've com

mitted to sharing resources and knowledge to make the journey of becoming a foster carer work better for you. This will include enhanced support from our team of social workers, recruitment officers and experienced foster carers. Applicants will also be supported to access a bespoke training package so that you are ready and prepared for your new role. Fostering for us means you are helping children in your local area. As a non-profit organisation, we aim to place children with our own foster carers before contacting other agencies. All of our foster carers receive an exceptional benefits, support and training package.

"What if I don't qualify?"

It's one of the most common questions we hear.

Many people assume fostering isn't for them because they rent, have pets, work, are single, or don't have children of their own.

In reality, there isn't one perfect foster carer.

The best way to find out if you could foster is simply to ask.

Don't rule yourself out before you've had the chance to explore what's possible.

Your enquiry could be the beginning of something life-changing for both you and a child who needs you.

Fostering: What is Staying Put? ๐Ÿ’›

When a young person in foster care turns 18, they donโ€™t necessarily have to leave their foster home.

Staying Put is an arrangement that allows a young person to continue living with their foster carer after their 18th birthday, while they take their next steps towards independence.

Our foster carers can continue to provide a safe and familiar home, alongside guidance, encouragement and practical support as young people develop the skills and confidence they need for adult life.

Financial arrangements are agreed between the young person, their foster carer and the local authority, with the young person contributing where appropriate to help prepare them for independent living.

Staying Put is a valued way our foster carers continue to support young people beyond childhood and help them prepare for their future.

If youโ€™ve thought about fostering and would like to find out more, contact Foster for East Midlands Councils on 03033 132950 or find out more here ๐Ÿ‘‰https://fosterforeastmidlands.org.uk/news-blog/2026/staying-put-foster-care-supporting-past-18-into-adulthood/

โ€œWhat can I expect at my first information event?โ€

Sometimes, the hardest part is walking through the door, and we'll be there to welcome you when you do. ๐Ÿ’›

Many people arrive with questions, uncertainties, and even a few butterflies.

Our information events are designed to be friendly, welcoming, and completely pressure-free.

At your first event, you'll:
โœ… Meet members of our fostering team
โœ… Hear from current foster carers about their real-life experiences
โœ… Learn about the different types of fostering and the support available

Most importantly, there is no obligation to take the next step! You can simply come along, listen, gather information, and decide what's right for you in your own time.

If ready for that step, you can then find out more about training, the assessment process, and financial support. You will have plenty of opportunities to ask follow up questions, either in a group or one-to-one.

Whether you're just curious or seriously considering fostering, we'd love to meet you! https://fosterforeastmidlands.org.uk/events/

Fostering beyond 18 ๐Ÿ’›

Growing up is a journey, and having someone there to offer support and encouragement can make all the difference.

Through Staying Put, some young people choose to continue living with their foster carer after 18, with a familiar home and trusted support as they begin adult life.

Financial arrangements are agreed between the young person, their foster carer and the local authority, with the young person contributing where appropriate to help prepare them for independent living.

๐ŸŽฅ Watch this film below which highlights the trust and bond between foster carers and young adults. ๐Ÿ‘‡
