An investigation into the cause of a fire at a scrap yard in has determined this to be accidental.

At 11:20 hours on Thursday 6 November, firefighters were called to the incident on Griffon Road, Ilkeston.

Fire crews from Ilkeston, Heanor, Nottingham Road, Long Eaton, Clay Cross, Ascot Drive, Wirksworth, Crich, and Nottinghamshire’s Stapleford, Eastwood, and Ashfield stations attended the scene supported by an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP), Water Carrier, Incident Command Unit, Welfare Unit and High Volume Pump.

Derbyshire police and emergency planning officers were also in attendance.

On arrival, firefighters were met with a fire involving multiple scrap cars. Wearing breathing apparatus, they used main jets and the ALP to extinguish the fire.

Firefighting was scaled back shortly before 16:00 hours, with two fire engines and an ALP remaining on scene at that time.

Final fire crews completed damping down the area and left the site at 17:18 hours, handing it into the care of the responsible person.

Firefighters from Ilkeston returned at 20:00 hours for a reinspection and left at 20:20 hours.

They returned this for another reinspection this morning, Friday 7 November, before leaving the scene at 07:20 hours and handed over to site management.

No injuries have been reported.

👩‍🚒👩‍🚒 Sisters in Service!

Sarah works in Control, answering 999 calls and helping get fire crews where they’re needed. Her sister Annamarie is a firefighter at Long Eaton, responding to emergencies with her team.
