| Burglar who hit woman in wheelchair with pan in her own home jailed
A burglar who burst into the home of a wheelchair-user and hit her with a pan before stealing her mobile phones has been jailed.
Remy Thomas broke into the home of the woman in Derby in the early hours of Monday 9 March and picked up a saucepan from the hob and started attacking the victim with it.
He has then gone into a bedroom and stolen two mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
Officers were called to the scene and located Thomas a short while later in nearby Lodge Lane.
He was arrested by an officer following a short chase on foot.
The victim, a woman aged in her 50s, was taken to hospital to be treated for a suspected fractured skull.
Thomas was charged with burglary and admitted the offence during an appearance at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday 18 August.
The 21-year-old, of Booth Street, Alvaston, was jailed for two and a half years.
He was also imposed with a restraining order not to contact the victim for five years.
