Big shout out to The Ironing Board in Spondon. I’ve had to take all my suits and shirts in to be pressed as I prepare myself for the year ahead. The ladies there are fantastic, although I’m not sure working in this current heat is something I’d like to do!

So, thank you very much for all your help in getting me ready. I always like to promote local businesses — they are the beating heart of our community, so please always shop local!

Cheers Jon ❤️

The police have released information.

| We were called to reports about a concern for the safety of a young girl on West Park Nature Reserve on Monday 25 May.

The girl was found safe and well and a scene was put in place while enquiries were undertaken.

There is no wider risk to the public, and the scene has been closed.

Speculation over Investigation at Fields near Acorn Way

Whilst we are still no closer to any information on the the police presence and investigation taking place on the fields near West Park/Acorn Way. We have been trying our level best to get some information to the public because of the speculation and panic it has driven.

However, information we can share is that there has been no body found that has been speculating on social media.

We have emailed the Chief Constable about our concerns on the lack of information and that we felt a holding statement on any investigation should have been afforded to the community. We fully understand that investigations need to take place, but the police should be giving reassurances and not creating a vacuum which has allowed speculation which has worried many in Spondon and Chaddesden.

🚛 BBC East Midlands HGV News on Ockbrook 🚛

We are fully aware of the news article on Ockbrook and their own plight with HGVs. Their approach has been adapted because, quite simply, there is no political appetite from Derbyshire County Council to do something about it.

In Derby, we have had a much softer approach from officers, who have finally recognised the issue, carried out surveys at our request, and have even admitted to us that we do have a problem with HGV numbers in our village.

We would very much love to work together with Ockbrook, but that can only happen if Derbyshire County Council takes a different approach and works with us on a joint plan.

However, we have to be honest — we cannot wait or simply do nothing. The three of us have a strong determination to push on. Therefore, our offer to work with Derbyshire County Council will always remain open, and we know Ockbrook residents also want to work with us.

We have built a good relationship with some members of their community who are leading their campaign, and we will continue that dialogue with them.

I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been elected as the first citizen of Derby and to serve as the next Mayor of Derby. To have been nominated was a privilege in itself, but to receive the support of the chamber unopposed is something I will never forget.

As Mayor, I look forward to representing our great city over the coming year — promoting the many positive things Derby has to offer, supporting local organisations, and engaging with communities and events across every part of the city.

This occasion is also particularly special for Spondon. The last Mayor of Derby from Spondon was Peter Berry in 2003, and I would like to pay tribute to him as he has someone I have learned immensely from in Spondon. It is a real honour to follow in his footsteps.

I would also like to sincerely thank everyone for the many kind messages and words of support I have received. I am truly overwhelmed by the warmth and encouragement shown to me.

It has come as a bit of shock and still processing it. But I will be back on duty for Spondon tomorrow and will update you all on how I will still fulfil my role as your Cllr, how I will fulfill my role as Mayor and the next 12 months.

Thanks all ❤️
