The Mayor of Dereham, Councillor Zoe Flint, would like to make the following statement on behalf of all the Dereham Town Councillors.

Dereham remains a good place to live; Dereham Town Council is however aware of and recognises the concerns and unrest felt by some members of our community in relation to recent Police activity and the use of certain properties for temporary accommodation within the Town.

While matters relating to law enforcement, public safety, housing provision and the management of temporary accommodation fall within the remit of other statutory authorities, the Town Council takes residents' concerns seriously. The Council is actively engaging with the relevant agencies, seeking information where appropriate, and ensuring that local concerns are clearly communicated.

Although the Town Council does not have direct powers in these areas, it is committed to working constructively with partner organisations and holding the relevant authorities to account on behalf of the community. The Council will continue to monitor the situation closely and advocate for the interests and wellbeing of Dereham residents.

The concerns of the community can be best addressed if residents continue to report criminal activity to the Norfolk Police Service:

We all have our part to play in maintaining Dereham as a good place to live and work.

D-Day 82nd Anniversary - 06 June 2026

The Union Flag and the Royal British Legion Flag are flying in Dereham to commemorate 82 years since D-Day - The historic Allied landings in Normandy, France.

The D-Day landings of 6 June 1944, during World War II, was the largest seaborne invasion in history. Along with the associated airborne operations, it marked the beginning of the liberation of France and western Europe.

On this Day, we commemorate those who gave their lives for our freedom, and take the opportunity to celebrate peace, liberty, and reconciliation.

Dereham Town Council is looking for sites to create new Open Space and Football Pitches.

It is well established from studies carried out by Breckland District Council and Dereham Town Council that there is a shortfall in open space and sports pitches in Dereham, particularly in the South of Dereham.

Dereham Town Council has, for some years, had a strong aspiration to address the shortfall in open space and sports pitches in the south of Dereham and has prepared a considerable amount of evidence to support the need for additional land for play and sports.

The Town Council is now at a stage where it would like to engage with landowners who would be interested in either selling or leasing land to the Town Council for open space.

Interested land owners are being asked email the Town Council identifying land they would like to be considered on [email protected]

Deadline for submissions is the 1st August 2026. If any land owners would like additional information or an informal discussion they can make contact on the above email address.

Dereham Allotments

The Town Council are proposing to add a new rule to the Allotment Tenancy Agreement stating that any new fruit trees must be planted at least 3m in from any plot boundary and must be of dwarf fruit stock.

The aim of this addition is not to prevent allotment tenants from planting fruit trees; it is to ensure that any fruit trees are planted in a way which will not cause a nuisance to neighbouring plot holders.

This new rule will not be implemented retrospectively, any tenant who already has fruit trees on their plot will not need to make any changes.

VE Day - 08 May 2026

The Union Flag is flying in Dereham to commemorate 81 years since Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), which after 6 years of brutal conflict and unimaginable loss, marked the official end of World War II in Europe on 08 May 1945.

On this day we remember and honour the brave men and women who sacrificed everything, and give thanks for our freedoms.

We reflect on the lessons of history, honour the courage of past generations, and renew our commitment to peace and freedom today.
