🏥 Ógra Welcomes £500 bonus for Nurses 🏥

We welcome the £500 special recognition payment announced today by Minister for Health Robin Swann at Stormont.

Ógra President Tom Cahill wrote to the Minister in December and made the case, on behalf of Ógra, for a £500 bonus for nurses for working during the pandemic. In his letter to the Minister, Mr. Cahill said that a bonus of £500 would amount to approximately £11.5m of a cost to to Executive and that the costs were far outweighed by the work undertaken, and sacrifices made, by nurses during the pandemic.

In reply to the Ógra letter, Chris Wilkinson, Head of the Pay and Employment Unit in the Department of Health thanked Ógra for their proposal and said that the Department would consider options for a payment to all health and social care staff and careers.

The payment needs to be approved by the Department of Finance but we are hopeful that this will be done swiftly.

UU Ógra Fianna Fail would like to wish the Minister a speedy recovery after his Covid 19 diagnosis.
