Today the centres Ma's project hosted our 'Inequalities in Motherhood' event in the Guildhall.

Thank you so much to everyone who attended and spoke so passionately about maternal mental health and why .

It was brilliant to see so many health professionals represented in the room, hearing first hand from the Mas participants about their journeys.
Well done to the mums of this project who continue to show up for themselves every week.
Mas is delivered in Women centre , Derry and Strathfoyle Women's centre.
Thanks to the The National Lottery Community Fund Northern Ireland for enabling this important work to happen.

What first caught attention in this old TV clip was the discussion around Cat Deeley’s accent changing over the years.

But when i watched it, what really stands out is the culture of normalised harassment towards women and girls that sits underneath the conversation.

Comments about women not being able to wear certain clothes at night, or expecting to be “pinched” in bars, were treated as ordinary, even humorous.

Years later, we are still challenging these attitudes.

Violence Against Women and Girls is not only about physical violence, it is also about the everyday comments, behaviours and expectations that normalise harassment and place responsibility on women to stay safe.

The good news is that culture is changing. More people are questioning these attitudes instead of accepting them as “just the way things are.”

But there is still work to do.
