THE BUDGET DEBATE NEEDS TO CHANGE.

Once again, Stormont’s parties - unionist and so-called nationalist alike - are looking to the British Government for more money and saying that the North is underfunded.

But why is the ambition always to ask for more money, rather than more powers?
Powers we can use to build an economy capable of raising more of its own revenue and integrate into an all-Ireland economy.

Around 93% of the Executive’s funding last year came through the Westminster Block Grant. Money which is often misspent, and because it is 'sent' from London, lacks any accountability from Stormont politicians.

We need to tackle waste, reform how government operates and pursue greater fiscal powers so that we can make our own choices: cut taxes on fuel, make the North more competitive, match the Corporation Tax rate in the South, and work towards full harmonisation of taxation across Ireland.

This is about a different ambition for our economy:
Less waste. Less dependency. More fiscal responsibility.

More power over the money we raise and spend.
Instead of permanently asking Westminster to write a bigger cheque, the Budget debate should be about how we create a stronger, increasingly self-funding economy and remove the economic barriers between North and South.

End government waste. Build economic independence.

Areas right across the city are experiencing problems with tenants who are constantly partying, taking drugs, and disrupting the lives of people who want to live in peace. Some housing providers have the information and have done little with it - that must end.
