Devizes & District Independent Childminders

Devizes & District Independent Childminders Childminding can be a very satisfying occupation and we take pride in knowing that we are helping to educate the adults of the future.

We would like to welcome you to the Devizes Childminding Group; we are here to support you in your role as a minder and also for parents looking for childminders. A centre for advice and idea swapping is a great benefit to everyone concerned with childcare and our Group is run with this in mind. The Devizes Childminding Group was set up in 1985 by a number of local Childminders. The Group is self-

supported and is run by a Committee. WEEKLY MEETINGS for Childminders;
We meet every Wednesday (term time only) at St. Andrews Church Hall for 2 hours from 9.30 till 11.30

Today we continued our topic of transport and looked at trains. The children loved creating train and carriage pictures with paint, stampers, stencils and sponges. Some beautiful creations. 🚂 🚊 🚆 we also played with the train track and trains and finished the session with “Great Big Train” book 📕 the children showed great listening skills.

We extended their interest by trying to build a train from the foam mats. Lots of helpers and lasted a “little” while before it burst at the seams! 😂

Some of our friends went on a real train this week too.

Children had great fun during our imaginative and discovery play session. Our tuff trays were transformed into hospital stations where children took on the roles of caring paramedics, ambulances, doctors and nurses.

This week, our little artists brought some of our favourite stories to life! To wrap up our colour-focused activities from the past term, the children loved exploring “Elmer’s Parade” and the Rainbow fish.
It was wonderful to watch them:
Identify a vibrant selection of colours.
Explore different textures through collage
Create their very own colourful masterpieces.🐘🐠🌈

A Golden Sensory Adventure:
It is been a busy week exploring our latest colour - Gold! By linking our colour play with Chinese New Year, the children were able to explore a variety of rich textures and sounds - from the crinkle of gold wrappers to the sparkle of sequins .
Sensory play like this helps our little ones develop fine motor skills , discovering colours and language as they describe what they see, feel, and hear.
Wether children were “decorating” themselves in gold tinsel or creating beautiful collages, the creativity was flowing. Such a truly “golden” week of learning!

Today, our little explorers dived into the vibrant world of the colour orange! From textured collage making to squishy crumbly sensory fun with playdough, or our orange snack, it’s been a bright busy day.
The learning behind the fun:
Activities like these are more than just play! By selecting different materials for their collages, children are developing their fine motor skills and decision-making. Exploring our orange playdough encourages sensory processing and language development as they try to describe the different textures and shapes they create.
Extending suggestions: a walk to spot the orange colour 😉

Today we explored what happened when we put paint onto salt. The childminders helped the children created a snowflake shape with the younger children and they used the paints to watch it expand along the salt. They used brushes, cotton buds and some flicked it at it. They all looks fantastic ❄️ 🎨

Today, we explored the sounds and sights of “bonfire” night. The noisy, colourful flashing stars popping in the sky were the main inspiration! Our older toddlers remembered seeing something over the weekend , and everyone loved “drawing “ on a dark blackground.
Then we got busy creating our own fireworks, using chalk and sparkling bits. Look at these incredible masterpieces! 🥰😁

Last 2 weeks activities:

Last week we explored magnets and magically flying ghosts and bats. 👻 🦇 The children showed great interest in making them fly. They extended this by trying to find other metal objects in the room. For craft the children made an autumn tree with real leaf confetti. Great control of the glue sticks. Amazing how different each tree looked. 🍁 🍂

This week we made candle holders to celebrate Diwali 🕯️🪔 the children had a ball of clay and were able to use different tools to shape it and mould it into whatever they wanted. Lots of concentration and some fantastic candle holders. They had a variety of gems, sequins and beads to put into the clay to decorate it.

Today the children explored a tuff tray with coloured rice and big googly eyes 👀! They had access to spoons and bowls so there was lots of filling, emptying and transporting! Some children used the eyes to make monsters and spiders 🕷️
They all then had a chance to make a monster splat picture 🫟 this was a sponge filled with paint and a hammer to splat it. A cause and effect activity with fine motors skills, which they all seemed to throughly enjoy! (Maybe some adults too 😂)
