đź‘® The Devizes Neighbourhood Team were out in the Market Place today alongside our Training Department đź‘®

Officers carried out Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) enforcement and took part in training exercises, while also taking time to engage with the local community.

PSPO enforcement is an important tool in helping us tackle anti-social behaviour, maintain a safe environment, and ensure the town centre remains welcoming for everyone.

We conducted reassurance patrols, shared crime prevention advice and listened to the issues that matter most to our residents and businesses.

Your feedback helps shape our neighbourhood priorities and thank you to everyone who stopped for a chat!

🚜 Agricultural GPS Thefts – Remain Vigilant 🚜

Wiltshire Police is urging the rural community to stay alert following reports of agricultural GPS thefts in neighbouring counties.

Op Walrus is a nationwide initiative led by the National Rural Crime Unit, targeting organised crime groups stealing high-value GPS equipment, displays and receivers from tractors and combine harvesters.

To help protect your equipment, please take the following precautions:

âś… Remove GPS units from tractors when not in use and store them securely
âś… Activate PIN security using a unique code
âś… Mark your GPS equipment (e.g. postcode marking or forensic kits)
âś… Record serial numbers and photograph your kit
âś… Store machinery securely and lock all gates overnight
âś… Use forensic marking kits to identify your devices
âś… Report any suspicious activity around farmland

Taking these simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of theft and improve chances of recovery.

A man has been fined more than ÂŁ2,000 after being caught speeding while drink driving.

At around 2.45pm on 9th March last year, a vehicle was stopped after being seen driving at 51mph in a 30mph zone in St Edith's Marsh, Devizes.

Upon speaking to the driver – Jaimee Long, 34, of Dowse Road, Devizes – officers suspected him to be under the influence of alcohol.

Long subsequently provided a positive breath specimen at the roadside, blowing 66UG, the legal limit being 35UG.

In custody, an evidential specimen was obtained which showed Long exceeded the drink drive limit.

At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday (21/05), he was found guilty of drink driving.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined ÂŁ2,166 and required to pay court costs and a victim surcharge of ÂŁ1,515.

One person has been found guilty of murder, and a second of manslaughter following the death of a man in Easterton.

Raymond Groves, 48, from Hartcliffe, Bristol, died following the incident on July 2.

Following an 11-week trial, Helen Shakespeare, 53, of Strawberry Fields, Easterton, was found guilty of manslaughter but not guilty of murder.

Anthony Hodges-Hillier, 33, of Brooklands, Royal Wootton Bassett, was found guilty of murder.

Letishia Goodwin, 29, of Strawberry Fields, Easterton, was found guilty of participating in the murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Deb Hatch said: “Raymond’s death was the result of a brutal and sustained attack, and today’s verdicts reflect the gravity of the actions taken by those responsible.

“I want to pay tribute to the dedication of every officer and staff member involved, and to Raymond’s family, who have shown remarkable strength throughout an incredibly difficult process.”

All three are due to be sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on July 2.

🚔 This week, PC Rolph and PCSO Lowe had the pleasure of visiting WansdykeSchool, Bradbury Manor and St. Katharine’s School Fayre, spending time engaging with members of the community of all ages.

These visits are a vital part of neighbourhood policing, helping to build trust, strengthen relationships and support early understanding of the role we play in keeping people safe. đź‘®

During their visits, they spoke with children and residents about what the police do day-to-day, what happens when laws are broken, and how we work to protect people and prevent harm within our communities.

Engaging with young people and local residents in this way helps create safer, more informed communities, where everyone feels confident to speak to us and seek support when needed. 🤝

Horse riders teamed up with Wiltshire Police as part of Operation Close Pass, an initiative aimed at reducing collisions caused by drivers failing to give enough space to vulnerable road users.

Operation Close Pass targets motorists who ignore Highway Code rules on overtaking cyclists and horse riders. The Code is clear: drivers should pass “wide and slow”, keeping at least two metres distance and reducing speed to a maximum of 10mph when approaching horses. Drivers are also advised not to sound their horn or rev their engine, and to wait patiently until it is safe to overtake.

Inspector Andy Lemon said: “Passing a horse too closely or too quickly can have serious — even life-changing — consequences. Horses are powerful animals but can be easily startled, and a moment’s carelessness behind the wheel can put riders, drivers and other road users at risk.

“Operation Close Pass is about changing behaviour. By increasing awareness and taking action where needed, we want to make Wiltshire’s roads safer for everyone — whether you’re driving, cycling or riding. A little patience and space can make all the difference.”

Last night (14/05/26), Inspector Garrett and Sergeant Wyatt from the Devizes Neighbourhood Policing Team were honoured to attend the Mayoral Reception, marking the formal inauguration of Vanessa Tanner as the new Town Mayor.

The evening provided an important opportunity to reinforce the strong partnership between local policing and civic leadership. Events such as this play a vital role in maintaining the close collaboration that underpins our shared commitment to community safety, wellbeing and public confidence.

We look forward to continuing to work alongside the Mayor and fellow partners to support the residents of Devizes and further strengthen the positive relationships that help keep our town a safe and thriving place to live and work.
