It’s Hate Crime Awareness Week, the national campaign to tackle hate crime across the UK.

In support of the campaign, Helen Gallimore, Connect’s Neighbourhoods Manager and Safer Communities Lead is sharing a series of short articles focused on recognising hate crime, reporting concerns and supporting safer, welcoming neighbourhoods for all.

Saturday is World Mental Health Day. In the run up, Leeds Mind has launched the campaign, to help people in Leeds know where to turn when they are struggling.

As part of the campaign, we'd also like to highlight Engage Leeds, a city-wide partnership which we're a member of.

Engage Leeds can help with support if you are at risk of losing your accommodation or have complex support needs, and are also specialists in providing housing support for people living with the symptoms of dementia, or similar memory conditions.

Have you heard of Direct Debit refund scams?

It's where a fraudster gets your bank details, files a claim to try and get back all your Direct Debit payments, then keeps that money for themselves.

The scammers can be very convincing but leave you with unpaid bills – potentially thousands of pounds worth.

Stay safe by never sharing your bank details, and checking your bank account regularly for payments you didn’t approve.

Over the summer we've trialled installation of three ‘Free Little Libraries’ across community groups, with the hope to roll out more around neighbourhoods in the future!

Free Little Libraries provide free access to books, encourage a love of reading and bring neighbours together.
