Thanks to a recent post from my friend Little WW2 Jeep I’ve been meaning to head over to Banham, Norfolk to see this plaque for a while. The plaque is in memory of the crew of a Consolidated B-24J Liberator (42-51503) ‘Crows Nest’, from the 734th Bomb Squadron, part of the 453rd Bomb Group. They were based at nearby Old Buckenham Airfield. On 26 November 1944 shortly after take off, the aircraft crashed at Groves Farm, Park Common sadly all the crew were killed.

The font cover in the Church of St Andrew, Billingborough is decdicated to the memory of Seargeant Ralph H. Credland who was Missing In Action on 28 January 1942. He was the Wireless Operator on Wellington (HF858) of 20 OTU. The aircraft departed RAF Lossiemouth for a routing night exercise and for reasons unknown, ditched in the Moray Firth. The five crew have no known grave and are remembered on the Runnymede Memorial.

The Waterbeach Military Heritage Museum, just north of Cambridge. The museum occupies the former Grocery & Local Produce Store next to the Guardhouse. It is a lovely museum telling the story of the site, is this a museum you have been to?
