Ditchling Naturespace The land next to the new Keymer Road car park

10/07/2026

Thank you to all who are supporting Ditchling Naturespace

On the 4th July, after an informative speech from Kate Ryland it was so lovely to see people enjoying the field and helping to move on it's transformation.

Volunteers helped finish clearing away the old shed, finish building the bee bank, begin digging the hibernaculum and collect wood to fill it, remove old posts and stymying an overactive vine!

It will be wonderful to see all of the wildlife and nature this first step will sustain over the years.

Many thanks to the Adur Adaptation Project for all their continued help and support on this

Looking forward to the next gathering

On Saturday 4th July there will be another gathering at Ditchling Naturespace (the field next to Ditchling Parish Council Car Park), from 9:30am til lunchtime.

We aim to complete a Bee Bank which has been started (bring a spade/shovel!), hear from Kate Ryland about the ecological survey she has completed, and celebrate the creation of 3 large scrapes at the bottom of the field! There will also be general clearing up to do and hopefully we will begin to construct a hibernaculum for hibernating reptiles. If you have any spare hardcore, please bring a barrow-full for the hibernaculum!

At 10:45am, Kate will talk about her report and wildlife recording/surveys. Then she will take small groups around to talk about key features of the site, identify plants, and explain why monitoring is important. She will show us all how to do botanical surveys, so that we can collect and record data at regular intervals.

Please come and join us, even if just to say hello!

Children are particularly welcome as we would love for them to get involved 🐝🐊🦆

RSVP to Hugh St John (Chair DNS committee for Friends of Ditchling) on [email protected]

Please bring your own refreshments and seating. We will provide water, please bring your own cup.

This gathering coincides nicely with National Meadows Day 2026! https://www.plantlife.org.uk/events/national-meadows-day-2026/

For those that can’t attend but would like to receive our update after the gathering, please email Hugh on the above email.

We look forward to seeing you there!
