From Doncaster Council
"I’m really pleased to share some fantastic news. After an incredible amount of hard work, intense activity, and a real collective effort to make things happen, Doncaster’s new central day provision is planned to officially open on 24 March.
This provision will play a vital role in supporting people who are rough sleeping—helping them meet their basic needs and connecting them into trusted support. It’s a significant step forward, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in getting us to this point.
I’m also delighted to announce that, following an invitation for people to help name the space, the results are in—and Doncaster’s central day provision will be called Welcome Centre.
The name ‘Welcome’ reflects the ethos of the space—open, respectful, and centred on dignity. It communicates that everyone who comes in is received without judgement and reinforces the supportive, humanitarian purpose of the provision. The term ‘centre’ reflects both the type of support offered and its geographical location.
This really resonated with people and it reflects exactly what we want this space to be:
A warm and welcoming place where people feel valued the moment they walk through the door.
A safe trusted environment, offering rest, comfort, and a sense of refuge for those experiencing rough sleeping.
A symbol of inclusivity and community, reinforcing that this is a space where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
It captures both the practical purpose of the provision and the spirit in which it has been created.
We are planning an opening day to mark the launch, and of course, you will all be invited—details to follow.
Finally, may I ask—if you haven’t already—please could you let us know what support your service will be able to provide from the facility? This will help us ensure a coordinated and effective offer from day one.
Thank you again for your ongoing commitment and support."
