As part of Doncaster Remake Learning, we have a mission – Mission: ‘365 Penguins’, a Maths through Stories event, which will take place next week during half term, led by the National Literacy Trust in Doncaster in partnership with RWM Doncaster.

Making 365 penguins is a very tall order so we need as many people to come along as possible – so if you’re in the area, why not come along and make a penguin! We’ll naturally be interspersing lots of penguin related mathematical facts too!

The ‘mission’ will be launched at Windhill School in Mexborough this morning (21.05.26) where we will be sharing the brilliant story with the children and their parents, and then get everyone involved in penguin making!

It will be great fun – so please come along to one of the sessions if you can – and please spread the word!

We have launched a consultation inviting residents, stakeholders and local businesses to share their views on the proposed renewal of existing powers that enables the council to more effectively address antisocial behaviour in our city centre.

For context, the city centre is currently covered by a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) imposing restrictions on certain unwanted activities like loitering, nuisance begging, and the use of banned substances, this empowers City of Doncaster Council to tackle key issues in the area, whilst also providing support to vulnerable members of the community.

The PSPO’s powers complement the wider work being carried out by the council, South Yorkshire Police and partners under the Safer City initiative, which is focused on reducing crime and antisocial behaviour and improving feelings of safety in the city centre.
The city centre PSPO was first introduced back in 2017 and has been renewed every three years since then with public support. Now that it is coming up for renewal once more, the people of Doncaster are again being asked to give their opinions on the seven current and one new proposed prohibition.

The consultation is open until Monday 1st June 2026, and feedback is being collected through a short online survey which can be found here, along with supporting documents: https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/crime-anti-social-behaviour-nuisance/town-centre-public-spaces-protection-order-pspo-consultation Paper copies are also available on request.

At Sir Thomas Wharton Academy, we are delighted to share a really exciting moment--we have been shortlisted for two national Tes Awards for 2026.

We have been shortlisted for:

Pupil Mental Health Initiative of the Year for our Student Mental Health Peer Support Programme
and Community Engagement Initiative of the year for the establishment of the Edlington Youth Council.

We are excited and proud of everyone involved in these two initiatives regardless of the outcome of these awards! Both of these initiatives allow students to develop their character and give back to the local community through collaboration with local stakeholders and primary schools. We are incredibly proud of the hard work that our students have demonstrated and their determination to improving their local area.
