The results are in for wing athletics 2026.

On 16 May 2026, the squadron took part in the wing athletics competition. The results are now in, and the cadets came 3rd overall in under-16 men, and 4th overall out of the 33 squadrons in the wing, which is a great result.

Special mention goes to Sgt Maulson, who managed the team while the staff in attendance were assigned other duties, ensuring no one missed an event and that the other cadets were supported throughout the day.

Some of the cadets will now go on to represent the wing in the inter-region athletics competition next month!

PROMOTION ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with great pleasure that 1053 Armthorpe Squadron can announce that after an application process, a presentation to wing staff, and a selection board interview, Flight Sergeant Lacey has been promoted to Cadet Warrant Officer.

This promotion reflects a great deal of commitment, leadership, and dedication to both the squadron and the RAFAC over many years in the organisation. CWO Lacey has always strived to embody the core values of the RAFAC and has always given his best effort in everything he does.

He also has recently passed the fundamentals of coaching course which enables a cadet to assist on live fire ranges under supervision coaching other cadets as well as cadet force adult volunteers to improve in their shooting skills.

Cadets are taught weapon handling skills as part of a structured programme of supervised training that emphasises safe and responsible use.

Congratulations Cadet Warrant Officer Lacey

1053 (Armthorpe) Squadron RAF Air Cadets would like to wish Cadet Sergeant Alexander Jacobs all the very best for the future as he ‘Ages Out’ on his 18th birthday.

Cadet Sergeant Jacobs states, “Moving to this squadron has been an unbelievable journey and being a member of 1053 Squadron has allowed me to grow as a person in ways I never thought possible. As my 18th birthday approaches and exams loom it is upsetting that I have decided to age out upon my 18th birthday on the 29th April. My final decision stems from a combination of leaving the staff cadet process a bit too late, school and educational work, job shifts and after talking with my parents coming to the realisation that moving on from the organisation that has been my home for the past four years is the right thing to do. I love this organisation and although I did not start my journey at 1053 I am so happy to leave with the memories of my time there. At 1053 I have strengthened my ability and confidence to lead such as through having the honour of being a Junior C-Flight Instructor. My time teaching the new cadets seemed a perfect way to find closure in an organisation like this and the graduation parade was a proud moment for me personally. I would like to thank Flt Lt Robert Wenban who has been a role model to me and like many others on the squadron and I am sure in the core has inspired us to go above and beyond in everything we do. I move on to exams and hopefully university where I am preparing an application to the UAS. I will look fondly on the organisation and especially 1053. Staff and cadets are the framework on which the squadron operates and it is an honour to have been a part of something like this.”

Cadet Sergeant Jacobs took the Final Parade and spoke to everyone explaining that he has enjoyed his time with the squadron. He went on to state that cadets should sign up to activities, even ones that they don't particularly know anything about. He did an Adventure Training Camp and absolutely loved it. He went on to thank Squadron Leader Owen and Flight Lieutenant's Lambert and Wenban for being role models to him.
