✈️Wishing Sgt Tetley All the Very Best

Although I have only had the pleasure of knowing Sgt Jay Tetley for a relatively short part of his four years at 1053 (Armthorpe) Squadron, it has been clear to see the pride he has in the Squadron and how much his time as an Air Cadet has meant to him.

Four years represents a huge amount of commitment, experiences, friendships and memories, and Jay leaves 1053 having played his part in the Squadron’s story.

As OC, I would like to thank Jay for the commitment he has given to 1053 and, particularly, for the example he has set as an NCO. I hope he takes with him not only some fantastic memories, but also the skills, confidence and friendships gained during his time with us.

On behalf of myself, the staff and cadets of 1053, I wish Jay every success and happiness in whatever comes next.

You may be leaving the Squadron, Sgt Tetley, but you will always be part of the 1053 family.

✈️🚀 1053 Cadets are Cleared for Take-Off! 🚀✈️
Our 1053 cadets have been flying high at the Air & Space Camp Industry Day, getting a fantastic insight into the world of aviation, aerospace and the huge range of opportunities available within the industry. 🛩️🛰️
From discovering new technology to exploring potential future careers, it was a brilliant opportunity to broaden horizons, fuel ambitions and see just how far a career in air and space could take them! 🌍🚀

Last night saw the very first presentation of the Commanding Officers Commendation. This was proudly present to Cadet Andrew Rigg.

Cdt Andrew Rigg has consistently demonstrated the highest RAFAC values in all that he does. His tenacity, determination, and unwavering commitment to the squadron are evident every parade night; he is always correctly dressed, fully prepared, and willing to step forward for any task asked of him.
At the recent squadron swimming session, Andrew again showed how he approaches every challenge with a “feet‑first” attitude. His focus, listening skills, and application of coaching advice enabled him to make significant progress throughout the session. Both the coaches and squadron staff were impressed by his conduct, effort, and positive mindset.
Cdt Rigg is a credit to himself and to 1053 Armthorpe Squadron. Well done.

💦 1053 Squadron made a real splash at the local pool tonight! 🏊‍♂️

Our cadets dived headfirst into an evening of swimming, where they were put through their paces with some fantastic coaching from Jon Tuffrey and Lee Burkhill from Armthorpe Swimming Club.

A huge thank you to both of them for helping our cadets stay afloat, build confidence in the water, and develop the skills needed to complete their swimming proficiency. With these skills under their belts, our cadets can jump into future water-based activities knowing they have the confidence and ability to keep themselves safe.

Of course, no swimming night would be complete without a wave of friendly competition! The evening finished with some fast-paced relay races and pool games, creating plenty of laughs, team spirit, and a few impressive finishes.

A massive thank you to everyone who took part—you all went with the flow, gave it your all, and proved that when 1053 works together, we really do make waves! 🌊👏

1053 (Armthorpe) Squadron RAF Air Cadets wishes Cadet Sergeant (CSgt) Harry Ayre all the very best as he 'ages out' and focuses upon his educational studies and his journey to University. CSgt Ayre has been at 1053 Squadron for most of his teenage years and was heavily involved in the ceremonial drill aspect of the squadron.

Congratulations to the 1053 (Armthorpe) Squadron RAF Air Cadets Shooting Team who finished in 3rd Place at the Annual South and West Yorkshire Wing Clay Target Shooting Competition 2026. The feat is particularly impressive given the very cool and windy conditions throughout the day.

All cadet shooting and training is supervised by suitablly qualified, experienced and competent staff.
