Unless spotted and treated Japanese knotweed can "grow" into a very serious problem!! Here is some useful advice from LABC:

We have the Victorians to thank for introducing one of the world's worst invasive species into Britain – Japanese Knotweed. Native to Eastern Asia, the plant has an aggressive root system and growth that’s been known to damage concrete foundations, roads, retaining walls and even flood defences.

Time is running out for anyone who submitted a building regulations application before the 15th of June 2022 hoping to avoid the need to comply with the new FLOS requirements. The Transitional Provisions mean that projects where a building regulations application was made before that date must be started on site before the 15th of June 2023 or the new regulations will apply.
